Hexcel is currently seeking an R&T Chemical Technician for our Decatur, AL, USA location.

The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations:

• Support development of new chemical and physical analysis methods for analysis of precursor fiber and downstream carbon and composite materials.

• Conduct chemical and physical testing of precursor fiber, carbon fiber, and other materials using developed methods and techniques.

• Perform instrument calibration / verification and basic maintenance of laboratory instrumentation.

• Maintain accurate and precise laboratory records, including testing conditions, sample identification, in-process results, and final results. Ensure data integrity.

• Support other departmental programs as required, including as-needed backup support/operation of R&T pilot facilities.

Qualifications:

• Candidates must possess 5 years of industrial experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least two of those years being in a quality or research lab environment.

• An associate degree is preferred.

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional reports, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, technical methods, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of other scientists, managers, clients, and customers.

• Ability to demonstrate and independently apply chemical knowledge and techniques. Ability to develop and implement analysis techniques under direction of R&T Staff Scientist.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

• Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
