JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Prevention Specialist's role is to support schools and their respective students with their social, emotional, and behavioral needs. This is done through the provision of direct, 1:1 or small group interventions using evidence-based interventions, programs, and/or strategies. They are also responsible for conducting needs-based assessments and connecting students and their families to necessary social services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides leadership and acts as a consultant to assigned school personnel in the provision of evidence-based intervention, programs, and strategies.

  • Connects students and their families to necessary social services.

  • Maintain monthly documentation on each student and supports provided.

  • Conduct assessments to determine the nature of student concerns.

  • Maintains confidentiality.

  • Assists with in-service training for school staff and parents.

  • Meets with school staff, including but not limited to the school Problem Solving Team, Section 504 teams, and IEP teams, to share and develop intervention plans for targeted students.

  • Strengthen the educational process by improving the ability of students to behave in a positive manner, training parents to use positive behavior management techniques, implementing evidence-based interventions, programs, and/or strategies that target the referral concern, and improving teacher implementation of positive classroom management techniques or implementation of intervention/strategies recommended by the prevention specialist.

  • Monitors the attendance, academic progress, behavior, and participation in school activities of targeted students.

  • Attend professional development to increase their knowledge-base of evidence-based interventions, programs, and strategies to more effectively support student social, emotional, and behavioral growth.

  • Implements immediate structured assistance for targeted students with intervention activities and guidance.

  • Implement departmental programs that are consistent with the total educational philosophy and goals of the school.

  • Collect and maintain behavioral data for the referral concern to demonstrate a student response to intervention.

  • Collaborates with other student support staff (e.g., School Counselors, School Psychologists, SEL Program Specialists, PBIS Specialists, Attendance Officers, Hearing Officers, etc.) and community-based agencies.

  • Maintains accurate and current records.

  • Participate in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform duties.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Counseling or Social Work

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or School Psychology preferred

  • At least three years of experience in counseling, social work, school psychology, assessments, and referral procedures

SUCH ALTERNATIVES TO THE ABOVE QUALIFICATIONS AS THE BOARD MAY REQUIRE.

NOTE: Employment experience gained in the private employment sector may be considered for this position.

Reports To Director of Social and Emotional Learning

Salary Range: From/To Classified Salary Schedule 86 Level 1-4 ($53,906 ? $90,789)
