WSP is currently initiating a search for a Ports and Marine Engineer for our Anchorage, AK office. For over 40-years WSP has been a leader in waterfront structural design in the Puget Sound, for the U.S. Navy, and worldwide. The WSP Maritime group is a dynamic and energetic group with strong work ethics and a great culture of collaboration and camaraderie. You would be joining the largest and best waterfront/marine design group in the country. The projects are diverse in nature, interesting, and challenging.

Be involved in projects with our Ports and Maritime Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges. Our Maritime group comprises of highly motivated analysts, planners, and civil/structural engineers working in several key locations across the US and internationally. Major clients are port authorities, U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, terminal operators, contractors and private entities. Our strength is derived from the diversity of our marine-related work and our staff.

Your Impact

  • Perform civil/structural engineering design for marine and upland components

  • Perform berthing and mooring analyses

  • Develop plans, specifications, schedules and cost estimates for variety of port and Navy projects

  • Understand maritime codes and references including UFC, PIANC, ASCE-61

  • Prepare basis of design, design calculations, technical reports, alternatives analysis, and study reports

  • Understand interdisciplinary requirements for port projects

  • Attend client meetings and perform site visits

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5+ years of experience in analysis and design of port structures

  • Bachelors in Civil/Structural Engineering

  • Engineer in Training Certification.

  • Knowledge of marine, port, and coastal engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues.

  • Knowledge of relevant marine, port, and coastal construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP"s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering

  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.

  • Seismic Design Background/Experience

  • Previous experience in preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates

  • Hands-on analyses and design experience
