Summary

Reporting to the Vice President of Shareholder Relations, this position supports the development and implementation of NANA's Inupiat Ilitqusiat strategies, facilitates efforts to revitalize language and culture and provides support to the Regional Elders Council (REC) and the Iñupiaq Language Commission (ILC) and works closely with the Elder leaders. This position assists in coordinating alignment between NANA and its partners.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

§Provide staff support for quarterly meetings and coordinates activities of the Regional Elders Council and the Iñupiaq Language Commission in achieving their vision, mission, and goals.

§Provide staff support for Iñupiaq interpreters.

§Implement collaborative agreements with local, regional, and other organizations pertaining to Iñupiaq language and culture revitalization.

§Assist with the coordination of region-wide Inupiat Ilitqusiat, language and culture conferences and events.

§Develop, maintain, and report to NANA senior leaders and partners an Iñupiaq language and culture revitalization resources and strategies database.

§Provide coordination and facilitation for NANA and partners to learn about effective revitalization strategies and programs.

§Work with other NANA departments and companies and respond to requests for support to Inupiat Ilitqusiat activity to include:

  • Work with communications department and NANA companies on Iñupiaq concepts and translations for print materials.

  • Assist senior leaders with arranging Iñupiaq interpreters for events and meetings.

§Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit's success may also be assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

§High school diploma or GED required.

§Bachelor's degree preferred.

§Three years' experience working with Iñupiaq elders, and/or working with Iñupiaq culture and language learning efforts.

§Proficiency in writing and speaking Iñupiaq preferred.

§Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

§Successful collaborative experience working with diverse groups and organizations.

§Experience with writing reports and creating presentations.

§Demonstrated ability to organize and track multiple ongoing projects and responsibilities towards successful completion.

§Administrative experience coordinating activities such as travel and conferences.

§Demonstrated ability to work positively with staff to accomplish common goals.

§Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record to be eligible under NANA's vehicle insurance policy.

Competencies

§Ability to learn new Inupiaq words and uses in business and cultural environments.

§Ability to effectively listen and address communication needs of diverse stakeholders, including elders.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors - environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside. Some work may occur in outdoor settings.

Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere.

Description of environment: Office building with standard office environment. At times, outdoor environment.

Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.

Travel: Employee may travel up to 25% to various locations within the U.S. and/or remote locations and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes, and ATVs.
