This position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing equipment for the Facilities/utilities and production equipment located at Birmingham Labs Lakeshore Parkway and Tom Martin Drive facilities. Activities include the execution of maintenance services needed to maintain the operation of the facilities, complete scheduled work orders as it pertains to Corrective maintenance, Preventive maintenance per SOP's, and in adherence to cGMP standards. Perform Electrical troubleshooting & repair. Perform installation of electrical equipment to support process equipment. Maintain and troubleshoot Process Instrumentation and Programmable Logic Controllers. Completes formal documentation of all work performed, per cGMP requirements. Assist in deviations and investigations as assigned to determine root cause. Documentation focus includes accuracy, completeness and timely completion of all required work. Contacts and oversees outside services as necessary. This position will a key point of contact for specific production equipment and will require learning new equipment on a frequent basis. This position will also be included in the "On Call" rotation which consist of 7 days of after hour support as needed every 5-7 weeks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide preventive maintenance and troubleshooting for all process instrumentation, including flow, pressure, temperature, relative humidity, level, conductivity and pH.

  • Ability to read and interrupt general engineering & electrical drawings.

  • Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair PLC systems.

  • Perform PLC backups and basic programming of PLC's.

  • Maintain documentation of repairs in compliance with cGMP documentation practices.

  • Performs Preventive Maintenance (PM's, and routine maintenance request).

  • Evaluate new electrical installations to ensure site standards are met and maintained.

  • Provide operational oversight of the BAS (Building Automation System) and appropriately responds to all alarms.

  • Troubleshoot the site's overall electrical systems and repair/correct issues.

  • Perform troubleshooting & repair of critical utility systems, including DI, WFI, Pure Steam and USP Purified Water.

  • Electrical installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of 480 volt, 120 volt and 24 volt systems, including installation of new wiring/circuits.

  • Maintenance of rotating equipment, including pumps, fans, vacuum, process.

  • Ensure installation & repair of Electrical systems meet National Electrical Code.

  • Night/weekend on call for response to facility issues & BAS alarms.

  • Contacts and oversees outside services as necessary.

  • Support other trades as it relates to PLC's, Automation, & Electrical

  • Perform other duties as may be required by supervisor

  • Carry out standard maintenance and repair activities under detailed guidance. Troubleshoot basic technical or operational problems by applying previously defined solutions.

  • Report any problems or issues with site facilities.

  • Perform relatively simple quality sampling and inspection of products or processes (or both).

  • Follow a range of mandatory procedures to ensure that work is carried out to the required quality standards and/or to ensure adherence to external regulatory codes and internal codes of conduct.

  • Follow a range of mandatory work instructions (including use of personal protection equipment where relevant) to safeguard the environment and the wellbeing of oneself and others.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have extensive experience in preventive maintenance and repair of various process instruments.

  • Must have experience in electrical repair, and troubleshooting.

  • Must have extensive training and experience in troubleshooting, maintenance and programming of Allen Bradley PLC(s), HMI(s) & graphical interfaces.

  • Working knowledge of mechanical & plumbing systems.

  • Ability to assist in the troubleshooting & repair of motors and miscellaneous equipment. i.e. rotating equipment, pumps, fans, and vacuum systems.

  • Understanding of cGMP fundamentals to include, but not limited to Good Documentation Practices.

  • At least 1 yrs. experience in a GMP regulated industry. i.e. manufacturing, pharmaceutical or medical device industry preferred.

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience working in the Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology or similar industry preferred.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Able to handle multiple priorities and tasks.

  • Sound judgment; ability to be flexible.

  • Detail oriented.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Works well in team environment and with cross functional teams.

  • Must have a High School Diploma and/or Technical Certification.

  • 2 year Associates Degree preferred.

  • Sound experience and understanding of straightforward procedures or systems.

  • Uses clear and effective verbal communications skills with guidance (but not constant supervision) to express ideas, request actions and formulate plans or policies.

  • Works with guidance (but not constant supervision) to plan, organize, prioritize and oversee activities to efficiently meet business objectives.

  • Manages and applies safe systems of work with guidance (but not constant supervision).
