PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Security Engineer will provide daily monitoring of security tools and data in order to ensure the safety and security of ARRC systems.  The Security Engineer provides backup and support for the Security Management functions that the Manager of Security Delivery and Security is accountable.

 Will assist during cybersecurity events and investigations and will provide backup for the education program to ensure end users are educated and informed about risks and security concerns.  The Cybersecurity Engineer will be responsible for the research of, selection of and implementation of new security technologies and to perform security work that will ensure the security and safety of ARRC computing resources and systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:Cybersecurity tools research, implementation, configuration and troubleshooting.Monitor security tools and logs for anomaly, understanding baseline and investigating deviations.Cybersecurity event management, investigation and incident management.Education of end users on cybersecurity.Project Management

Factor 1 - Knowledge Required

In depth technical understanding of cybersecurity principals and best practice. Understanding and knowledge of Cisco networking configuration and audit. Ability to understand security requirements and regulations and the practical implementation of those requirements.

Factor 2 - Supervisory Control

Incumbent works under the general supervision of the Manager, Service Delivery and Security who defines objectives.   Must be able to work independently using own judgment in planning the work schedule, prioritizing work assignments, and setting deadlines in accordance with established instructions, policies and procedures.  Where no established guidelines or procedures exist, incumbent develops and uses methods based on experience and past practices.

Factor 3 - Guidelines

Established guidelines such as policies, procedures, project schedules and vendor manuals are available.  Some are detailed; others have gaps that require critical thinking skills, extensive research, and previous experience/training in determining the best approach to use in resolving complex problems.  Supervisor is available for assistance and guidance on any unusual situations.

Factor 4 - Complexity

Work involves the monitoring ARRC OT and IT systems for security concerns or anomalies.  Responsible for investigating security concerns and seeking external assistance when needed.

Implements new technologies and configurations to improve the security stance of ARRC systems. Works under pressure and with constantly changing deadlines.

Factor 5 - Scope and Effect

Responsible for critical systems across the enterprise.

Factor 6 - Personal Contacts

Primary contact with internal ARRC employees and contractors.  Outside contacts are with vendors of software and hardware for research and/or troubleshooting resolution as required.

Factor 7 - Physical Demands

Work is mostly sedentary.    Relocation and installation of equipment may require lifting up to 50 lbs.

Factor 8 - Work Environment

Work is performed in an office setting coupled with occasional visits to the computer room and user department areas.   Requires infrequent ravel to other Railbelt sites and shop offices to install computer and network related equipment, provide training and computer familiarization, or troubleshoot problems.   Work inside of industrial areas will require the incumbent to wear PPE gear (available at the warehouse) as required.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related degree required. May substitute related work experience for education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Work Experience

Three (3) years of experience as a Systems Engineer, Systems Administrator or Network Engineer required.   Cisco, Windows experience is required.

Certification/License Requirements

Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and possess a valid driver's license.
