Department: Youth Bureau

Primary Job Duties: Employees in this class work with youth and youth groups to ascertain their needs, interests and problems as a basis for developing appropriate programs and policies to fulfill these needs.

Works with and assists designated youth groups, youth organizations and institutions engaged in youth projects and with the Youth Bureau Executive Director, with emphasis on programs designed to aid in the prevention and control of juvenile delinquency. The work is performed under the direction of the Youth Bureau Executive Director in accordance with Youth Bureau policies. Does related work as required.

SUBJECTS OF EXAMINATION: The written examination will cover knowledge's, skills and/or abilities in such areas as:

• ADVISING AND INTERACTING WITH OTHERS;
• PREPARING WRITTEN MATERIAL;
• WORKING WITH YOUTH;

Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following requirements on or before the date of the written examination: Graduation from a college or university with a Bachelor's degree in education, sociology, psychology or related field PLUS one (1) year of full time paid experience in a related field; OR An Associate's degree PLUS three (3) years of full time paid work experience in a community organization, human relations, youth services, counseling, group work or related field.

Special Requirements

Candidates must be at time of examination and for at least four months prior thereto residents of City of New Rochelle

APPLICATION FEE: A fee of $30.00 is required for this examination.

No applications will be accepted without this fee. Make check or money order payable to the City of New Rochelle and write your social security and examination number on your check or money order. As no refunds will be made, you are urged to compare your qualifications carefully with the requirements for admission.

If you are disqualified or fail to appear for this examination, YOUR FEE IS NOT REFUNDABLE. APPLICATION FEE WAIVER: A waiver of application fee will be allowed if you are unemployed and primarily responsible for the support of a household.

In addition, a waiver of application fee will be allowed if you are determined eligible for Medicare, or receiving Supplemental Security Income payments, or Public Assistance (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families/Family Assistance or Safety Net Assistance) or are certified Job Training Partnership Act/Workforce Investment Act eligible through a State or local social service agency. ALL CLAIMS FOR APPLICATION FEE WAIVER COMPLETE A "REQUEST FOR APPLICATION FEE WAIVER AND CERTIFICATION" FORM (OBTAINED IN THE CIVIL SERVICE OFFICE) AND SUBMIT IT WITH YOUR APPLICATION BY THE CLOSE OF BUSINESS ON THE APPLICATION DEADLINE AS LISTED ON THE EXAMINATION ANNOUNCEMENT.
