Position Details
CITY OF AUBURN COMMUNITY CENTER
The Community Center within our Parks & Recreation Department is looking to hire multiple Recreation Leader I & II and Recreation Assistants for our summer camp programs. Summer camp programs run from June 15, 2024 -September 1, 2024.
Note: This is a non-benefited position working up to 40 hours per week.
Primary Duties
Rec Assistant
Enforce Community & Event Center and REC Teen Center rules
Be a positive role model
Engage youth ages 6-11 in various activities
Belay on Rock Wall
Provide direction and discipline when necessary
Communicate effectively with supervisors, youth and their families
Assist with Before/After Care
Assist with Programs
Other tasks as assigned
Rec Leader I
Provide on-site leadership for a recreational program, such as the Late-Night Program, After School Programs, Day Camp site, specialized recreation, etc.
Works courteously and effectively with participants, public officials, citizens, contractors, vendors, developers, supervisor, and other employees, both in person and over the telephone; assisting them with a wide variety of information pertaining to City and department.
Assists in developing, and follows, specific lesson or program plans.
Oversees the facility while program is being conducted.
Provides program and staff performance feedback to supervisor.
Assists in the training and supervises program staff and volunteers while on program site.
Deals with disruptive behavior in a positive manner.
Follows written and verbal instructions.
Keeps program supplies and equipment in a safe and clean condition.
Enforces department rules and regulations.
Works evenings and weekends in support of program events.
Effectively represents the department with program participants and the public.
Attends training sessions required by the department.
Demonstrates strong organizational skills.
Regular, reliable and punctual attendance
May perform miscellaneous basic office tasks.
Rec Leader II
Coordinates with full-time, regular recreation staff in the planning and overseeing of a recreation program, i.e., publicity, developing lesson plans and program development, ordering of supplies, scheduling of facility, supervision of facility and program.
Works courteously and effectively with participants, public officials, citizens, contractors, vendors, developers, supervisor, and other employees, both in person and over the telephone; assisting them with a wide variety of information pertaining to City and department.
Trains, schedules, and evaluates program staff.
Collects any fees and keeps secure until turning over to the City
Deals with disruptive behavior in a positive manner.
Follows written and verbal instructions and provides clear verbal and written instructions to program staff.
Enforces department rules and regulations.
Works evenings and weekends in support of program events.
Effectively represents the department with program participants and the public
Attends training sessions required by the department.
Obtains and maintains First aid and CPR certification.
Demonstrates strong organizational skills.
Regular, reliable and punctual attendance
May perform miscellaneous basic office tasks.
Performs related work as required
Minimum Qualifications
Recreation Assistant
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
Must be able to pass background check.
First Aid and CPR certification may be required.
Must be available to work on July 4, 2024.
Rec Leader I
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
Must be able to pass background check.
First Aid and CPR certification may be required.
Must possess a valid and current state driver's license at the time of appointment.
Previous experience in recreation programming and supervision preferred.
Must be available to work on July 4, 2024.
Rec Leader II
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
Must be able to pass background check.
First Aid and CPR certification may be required.
Must possess a valid, current state driver's license at the time of appointment
Previous experience in recreation programming and supervision required.
