Youth Specialist (Bilingual English/Spanish)- This is a full-time, non-exempt, 40hours a week, Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm or 8:30am-5pm,hybrid position located in our San Mateo office.
Program Description
The Turning Point C/Y Wraparound Program is a comprehensive, full-service partnership (FSP) for 45 of high-risk children/youth living in San Mateo County. The Turning Point C/Y Wraparound Program is designed to help children and youth achieve independence, stability, and wellness within the context of their culture, community, and family/caregiver. The Turning Point C/Y Wraparound Program seeks to stabilize youth in the community using natural support structures and a professional support team.
Position Description
The Youth Specialist is a key member of our Wraparound team who works with children, youth, adolescents, and young adults ranging from age 6 to 21, this position seeks to identify and draw out client strengths and ensure progress towards behavior and other goals established by their treatment team and youth specialist referrals.
Core Competencies
Competent in mentoring and coaching skills.
Teaches, models, and promotes effective behavioral skills in the home, school, and community locations.
Consults with caregivers on agreements to call police if de-escalation techniques do not work or if clients are a danger to themselves or others.
Works towards agreement and building consensus with treatment participants on plan of care approaches to behavior.
Has an understanding of the skills needed to partner with treatment team members in the creation of holistic treatment and individualized care plans.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Communicates with youth in a therapeutic manner to create safety and facilitate emotional expression, self-awareness, self-esteem, and social skill development
Responds calmly and professionally to crisis, working towards agreement/consensus with clients and their guardians to de-escalate tense situations.
Essential Functions
Provide counseling and behavioral interventions, guidance, skills-building and support in accordance with each client's individualized treatment plan and the program's treatment philosophy and model.
Works with assigned clients, from ages 6 to 21, on goals outlined in the Youth Specialist referral and Care Plan.
Works with assigned clients on topic areas such as coping skills, interpersonal skills, independent living skills, exploring career options, strategies for obtaining employment, recreational support, support with selecting physical activities, art projects, vision boards, support with cultural exploration, skills for decision making, etc.
Provide services to 6-21-year-olds and their families at Edgewood locations, in the home, at school and/or in community settings, as required by the treatment plan.
Have the interest and ability to work in a Hybrid position (from remote home office, Edgewood offices, and in the community for direct services with clients (ie. client home, school site, or other community locations)
Have access to a personal vehicle for travel throughout San Mateo County for community-based appointments and direct services to clients.
Engage family members and caregivers as full partners in service planning, delivery, and evaluation.
While under the Youth Specialist's care, maintain supervision of clients at all times to ensure their safety and well-being.
Engage in crisis interventions and de-escalation, including the application of conflict resolution and collaborative problem-solving techniques.
Implement clinical policies and procedures and actively enhance communication, coordination, and integration of care with other Edgewood service areas and with external providers.
Fulfills all documentation requirements
The hourly rate range for this position is $27.23 -$ 28.00 ( with language differential at the top of the range).English/Spanish bilingual language skills required.
*Please note- the language differential is contingent on passing a language proficiency test.
