Whitaker PRTF

We are currently recruiting for multiple Youth Program Education Assistant I'sI at Whitaker PRTF in Butner.    This position provides psychiatric-mental health nursing care.

 Care includes but is not limited to the diagnosis and treatment of human responses to actual and potential mental and medical problems.   Nursing also assumes the responsibility for planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for the 18 residents residing at the Whitaker PRTF.   YPEA II's provides support and mentoring for YPEA I positions as well as assigning them roles to provide structured activities, appropriate monitoring and documentation practices.

 YPEA II's will implement individual treatment plans for residents, offering appropriate and therapeutic choices and coping skills for residents. Participation in groups and creating therapeutic relationships with residents.   Provide coaching and mentoring on therapeutic approaches for YPEA I staff.

  The YPEA II position is responsible for creating and implementing structured programming on weekends, 2nd shift and when school is not in operation on 1st shift. The YPEA II will work with other unit team members in the implementation of curriculum for the residents assigned to their unit. This includes but is not limited to, Clinical groups, Recreational Therapy functions and Nursing groups.

This is a full-time position and eligible for the full State benefits package.   The normal work hours are 3pm-11:30pm, rotating weekends and red dot.  This position is deemed mandatory during adverse weather conditions, which will be discussed in detail during the interview process.

Whitaker PRTF, located in Butner, NC is a secure, non-acute treatment program for males and females ages 13-17.  Whitaker's mission is to provide comprehensive, evidenced-based services to North Carolina youth, who have emotional and behavioral challenges and need secure residential care.

The vision of Whitaker PRTF is to be a model facility using evidenced-based interventions, education and community interactions to provide quality clinical and behavioral care in the safest environment. Our goal is to coordinate with community-based resources so that the youth can return to successful, productive lives in their home communities. Whitaker PRTF seeks to build a network of services to meet each resident's needs and work to build on the strengths of the youth in our care to create positive relationships among peers.

Working knowledge of problems and needs of severely emotional and assaultive youth with practical application of task analysis and goal setting with BED/BEH individuals.

Ability to establish rapport and respect without undue resort to physical control and authoritative attitude.

Ability to work and plan with clinical staff in assessing child behavior and planning and implementing treatment plans.

Physical ability to manage disruptive youth without harm to residents or staff.

ADA physical requirements will be discussed in detail during the interview process.

Employee must be able to obtain certification in NVCI/APT, and recertification as required, CPR with recertification annually; and Fire Safety Training annually.

Associate's Degree in human services or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related work experience; or High school or General Educational Development diploma and four years of directly related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications As required by facility, CPR certification and listing as a Nurse Aide I or Nurse Aide II by the NC Division of Health Service Regulation required prior to providing direct patient care.The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Service is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus (effective August 2, 2022)

Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:

A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).

An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

(1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);

(2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;

(3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
