This posting will be used to fill several temporary positions (6415, 6419, 6420, 6421, 10731) located in Salemburg

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay:$15.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application)

Positionswill be assigned to the Department of Public Safety

  • National Guard.- Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy (TCA). Employee works collaboratively to assure a safe environment for 16-18 year olds who are attending the Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy Program. Position functions as a mentor, advisor, counselor and teacher while communicating the program standards and expectations to the cadets.

    Employee identifies factors that could lead to inappropriate behavior and make immediate corrections. Position has the most interaction with the cadets and serves as the front line supervisor responsible for all aspects of academy life. Responsible for documenting occurrences during shift and briefing follow on shifts concerning any problems or issues. Position initiates counseling statement/incident reports as needed to document inappropriate behavior.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Experience with teaching, coaching and mentoring 16-18 year oldat-risk youth

  • Experience observing, assessing and collecting data associated with at-risk youth behavior (failing to follow instructions, altercations with other cadets, disrespecting adult leaders and/or peers)

  • Experience in organizing and/or leading groups for training or service projects

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate's degree in human services or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

VIEW JOBS 9/20/2022 12:00:00 AM 2022-12-19T00:00 <p>Description of Work</p><p>This is a Statewide continuous posting and may or may not reflect current vacancies.</p><p>The Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy (TCA), Youth Program Education Assistant (Assistant Team Leader) positions are located in two locations: Salemburg, Sampson County ANDNew London, Stanly County. These positions work collaboratively to ensure continuous and adequate supervision, accountability, control, training, safety and well-being of cadets 24 hours/day, 7 days/week while cadets are in the residential phase of the program. Job responsibilities include the following:</p><ul><li><p>Functions as mentors, advisors, counselors and teachers, while communicating the program standards and expectations to the cadets.</p></li><li><p>Identify factors that could lead to inappropriate behaviors and make immediate corrections.</p></li><li><p>These positions will have the most interaction with the cadets and serve as first line supervisors responsible for all aspects of academy life including; conducting inspections of Cadets and their living quarters, physical fitness, basic first aid, transporting and supervising Cadets when participating in off-site TCA activities such as community service projects, job and college fairs, SAT testing and off site training.</p></li><li><p>Responsible for documenting occurrences during shift and briefing following shifts, concerning any problems or issues.</p></li><li><p>Initiate counseling statements/incident reports as needed to document inappropriate behavior.</p></li><li><p>The Youth Program Education Assistants are also required to perform physical fitness tasks (Marching, Running, Push-ups, Sit-ups, Calisthenics and Prolong standing).</p></li></ul><p>These are full time positions (40 hours per week) with Benefits.</p><p>Schedules:</p><p>Individuals work approximately 16 days a month and off 14 days.Additionally, they work Holidays and weekends unless the academy is closed. Shifts include the following:</p><p>1st Shift 6am to7pm (1 hour lunch/break)</p><p>2nd Shift 10am to 11pm (1 hour lunch/break)</p><p>3rd Shift 6pm to 7am (1 hour lunch/break)</p><ul><li>Cadres working the weekend are off Wednesday</li></ul><ul><li>Friday</li></ul><ul><li>Cadres off on the weekend work Wednesday</li></ul><ul><li>Friday</li></ul><ul><li><p>All Cadres work 4 hours on Monday</p></li><li><p>Cadres are off every other weekend</p></li><li><p>Cadres are off every other Wednesday</p></li></ul><ul><li>Friday</li></ul><p>An example of a typical YPEA I (Cadre) 40 hour per week is as follows:</p><p>Monday (all cadres) - 4 hours</p><p>Tuesday (select) - 13 hours (1 hour for lunch/break)</p><p>Wednesday-Friday</p><ul><li>Off</li></ul><p>Saturday to Sunday</p><ul><li>26 Hours (1 hour per day for lunch/break)</li></ul><p>Monday (all cadres) -4 hours</p><p>Tuesday (select)-Off</p><p>Wednesday to Friday- Three 13 hour days</p><ul><li>39 hours (1 hour per day for lunch/break)</li></ul><p>Saturday to Saturday</p><ul><li>Off</li></ul><p>Note to Current State Employees: The Salary Grade for these positions is GN05.
