Central Regional Hospital

We are currently recruiting for multiple Youth Program Education Asisstant I's for all shifts for the Child and Adolescent Unit (CAU) at Central Regional Hospital in Butner.  This position provides specialized direct services to extremely behaviorally challenged patients (in the forms of behavioral programming, facilitating training/activities, in addition to assisting with health care needs to whatever is deemed necessary.

Training covers a broad area, assistance in classroom programming, role-modeling, on-the-spot counseling, and decision-making, transportation, crisis intervention, and such entities as self-help, communication, activities of daily living. Health promotion from minimal levels of assistance to extensive supervision to protect individuals from injuring themselves or others. Employees in this class provide quality care while implementing therapeutic, behavioral and educational interventions in a safe environment for children, youth and young adults. The YPEA I role is a position based on an evidence-based concept that non-licensed caregivers can be instrumental in the application and implementation of behavioral and developmental methodologies.

These are full-time positions and eligible for the full State benefits package. Multiple positions and shifts are available.

Our shifts are 8 hours and include alternating weekends and holidays as scheduled. We offer additional shift premium pay for Evening (10%), Night (10%), and weekends (5%).

  • First Shift: 7:00 a.m.
  • 3:30 p.m.
  • Second Shift: 3:00 p.m.
  • 11:30 p.m.
  • Third Shift: 11:00 p.m.
  • 7:30 a.m.

Flexibility is required to meet hospital needs. These positions are designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

Pay is commensurate with education and experience. These positions are eligible for shift and weekend premium as appropriate.

Child/Adolescent Unit (CAU)

The Child/Adolescent Unit evaluates and treats children ages 5 to 17 using the philosophy that children do well if they can. All programs within the Child/Adolescent Services provide comprehensive medical, psychiatric, psychological, social and educational services. Special attention is paid to evaluation and planning with the child's family or guardian and other community resources.

  • Must be able to pass and maintain all hospital required training during probationary period including certifications in Nursing Assistant I (NAI), Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), Advanced Physical Training (APT), CPR, and Fire Safety, etc. as required by the facility.

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Experience in the care of children with psychiatric disorders, children with trauma, behaviors that have the potential to be verbally or physically aggressive, and/or any individual that is Intellectually or Developmentally delayed.

  • Ability to maintain professional and even-tempered demeanor and work.

  • Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form.

  • Ability to proficiently read, speak and write in English.

ADA and physical requirements will be discussed in detail during the interview process but, at a minimum, include Medium Work defined as exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; lifting, kneeling, walking up and down stairs, etc.

Associate's degree in human services or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications As required by facility, CPR certification and listing as a Nurse Aide I or Nurse Aide II by the NC Division of Health Service Regulation required prior to providing direct patient care.

Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus

Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:

A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).

An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:



 (1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);

 (2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;

 (3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
