We are currently recruiting for multiple Youth Program Education Assistant I's for all shifts for Whitaker Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) in Butner, NC.

Youth Program Education Assistant I's provide direct support and facilitate daily programming activities for intellectually/developmentally disabled teens and young adults who exhibit extreme behavioral challenges.  Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Providing supervision and ensuring safety of individuals

  • Assisting in educational and/or vocational programming

  • Facilitating indoor/outdoor leisure activities and encouraging participation

  • Crisis-intervention which includes de-escalation of aggressive individuals and, at times, physical interventions

  • Facilitate goals in areas of grooming, hygiene, dining, and residential skills to promote independence

  • Participate in community outings

  • Assisting individuals in areas of daily living skills while promoting their independence

  • Transportation when needed for school, outings, appointment, etc.

  • Writing monthly progress notes for goals and recording of behavior data

  • Coaching in areas of social skills, community safety awareness, problem solving

These are full-time positions and eligible for the full State benefits package. Multiple positions and shifts are available.

Our shifts are 8 hours and include alternating weekends and holidays as scheduled. These positions are eligible for shift and weekend premium as appropriate.  Pay is commensurate with education and experience.

Flexibility is required to meet facility needs. These positions are designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

Work Schedule                                      Shift Premium 

First Shift: 7:00 a.m.

  • 3:30 p.m.            (5% Weekend)

Second Shift: 3:00 p.m.

  • 11:30 p.m.     (10% Daily + an additional 5% on Weekends)

Third Shift: 11:00 p.m.

  • 7:30 a.m.         (10% Daily + an additional 5% on Weekends)

About Whitaker PRTF

Whitaker PRTF, located in Butner, NC is a secure, non-acute treatment program for males and females ages 13-17.  Whitaker's mission is to provide comprehensive, evidenced-based services to North Carolina youth, who have emotional and behavioral challenges and need secure residential care.

The vision of Whitaker PRTF is to be a model facility using evidenced-based interventions, education and community interactions to provide quality clinical and behavioral care in the safest environment. Our goal is to coordinate with community based resources so that the youth can return to successful, productive lives in their home communities. Whitaker PRTF seeks to build a network of services to meet each resident's needs and work to build on the strengths of the youth in our care to create positive relationships among peers.

We also work to meet the needs and expectations of the family, school and community. Our residents receive individualized treatment to increase their academic, social and behavioral competencies so they can be successful in less restrictive environments.

  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and/or mental illness.

  • Must be able to pass and maintain all hospital required training during probationary period (including, but not limited to, NCVI/APT, CPR, Fire Safety, etc.)

  • Current North Carolina State driver's license.

ADA and physical requirements will be discussed in detail during the interview process but include, at a minimum, physical ability to manage disruptive youth without harm to residents or staff and the ability to lift 50 pounds.  Mobility is necessary in order to perform the required duties.

Some state job postings say you can qualify by an "equivalent combination of education and experience." If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both. Associates degree in human services or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution;

or

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of directly related experience;

or 

an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications As required by facility, CPR certification and listing as a Nurse Aide I or Nurse Aide II by the NC Division of Health Service Regulation required prior to providing direct patient care.

NAI and/or NAII Certification is NOT required for this position.

Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus

Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:

A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).

An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:



(1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);

(2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;

(3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
