Primary Function
Provide primary leadership for the implementation of high school and junior high youth according to the USCCB's eight components of youth ministry by administrating the parish catechetical programs to build a solid foundation for the Parish community.
Primary Objectives
Assisting to form Disciples of Christ by attending to the growth and development of all persons in the way of the
To assist parents and families in the faith formation of their young people through culturally- sensitive and developmentally appropriate
To encourage all people to listen for and respond to the particular mission and vocation God has for them
To provide faith community support to all people, and to integrate young people into the life of the parish, and the Church as a whole
To promote life-long spiritual formation and education of all people
To foster an awareness of the poor and the marginalized through a commitment to service and justice opportunities
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in planning the Faith formation in the Catholic tradition, including two- year Confirmation program for all youth
Take lead, working with the Assistant Youth Coordinator, in Coordination of monthly/weekly high school youth night.
Take lead, working with the Assistant Youth Coordinator, with recruitment and management of adult volunteers, and high school Core Team (juniors and seniors) for Confirmation, youth nights.
Assists with and coordinates retreats, service opportunities, fundraisers, and other events.
Appropriate, detailed record keeping.
Develop and maintain emergency action plans.
Prepare, oversee and attend worship services involving the youth/confirmation.
Assist with designing and implementation programs to assist parents in deepening their knowledge of the faith and to encourage the practice of Catholic Traditions in the home and community.
Assist with putting in requests to order textbooks, teaching materials and resources for both programs to the business Manager.
Support and endorse Diocesan and Parish board policies.
Leadership Duties
Assist in recruiting volunteer catechists for the program and appropriate in-service training and formation for
Identify and support the training for
Counsel, advise, & visit with students, parents & teachers when problems
Serve as a member of the Pastoral Council and attend council
Work to integrate the total parish religious education
Meet regularly with parish staff for planning and coordination of parish
Position Requirements
Active, practicing member of the Catholic Church, and excellent knowledge and adherence to Church teaching and life
Must maintain appropriate certifications (see below) and attend enrichment courses and programs as appropriate
Desire and enthusiasm for working with all age demographics
Highly self- motivated, creative, energetic and assertive
Demonstrated spiritual and emotional maturity
Strong organizational skills, including time management, delegation, planning, budgeting and ability to balance multiple projects at a time
Ability to manage and engage key stakeholders including key including parents, core team members, teenagers, staff members and adult volunteers
Close collaboration with Pastor, Pastoral Associate and Director of Religious Education to meet the pastoral needs of the whole parish community
Demonstrate capability to carry out administrative and supervisory duties in a timely fashion, utilizing good communication and relationship
Participate in ongoing formation and educational opportunities to keep current on trends in catechetical
Education and Experience

Computer skills in Microsoft Office products
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
Current California Catechists Certificate
Completed or enrolled in CMD Certificate Program for Youth Ministry
Experience working with youth ministry at a parish (volunteer or paid)
Successful completion of parish Safe Environment program
Bachelor's degree in Theology or related field preferred
Certified as a Master Catechist preferred
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to remain in an office at a computer workstation and access information from a computer and use a telephone. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the office, as well as maneuver throughout the Saint John the Evangelist facility to attend meetings, briefings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend meetings or events. The employee must be able to climb stairs. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
