Ensures the safety and well-being of all students: supervises students before and after school hours; ensures safety in residential programming and events; discusses moral, ethical or other subjects with students & listens to problems; assists with homework; escorts students to classes or to off-campus activities; accompanies students to meals; conducts hourly bed checks at night.

Promotes optimal independence of all students: provides instruction and guidance of daily living skills; develops programs and activities that foster communication, social, emotional and personal growth; organizes and provides recreational activities for students; creates and disseminates monthly recreation calendar.

Completes detailed documentation in a timely manner (e.g., IRP reports, daily dorm logs, nightly sleep charts, student assessment checklist, student goal sheets, food order form, supply order form, dorm schedule, room assignment chart).

Observes and responds to student behavior issues in an appropriate manner (e.g., positive behavior reinforcements, firm, fair, consistent discipline, verbal prompting and redirection, CPI, and referrals to the school psychologist).

Performs light housekeeping in the dorms and instructs students on applicable chores (e.g., laundry, makes beds, cleans appliances, rotates food inventory and disposes of expired items, cleans floors, cleans counters, cleans dishes, empties trash).

12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in youth programs, educational support/care, or childcare.

  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications of Employment noted above.

Note: Must demonstrate Intermediate level on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) for positions assigned to the Ohio School for the Deaf.

The selected applicant(s) will be assigned a primary work location at the time of hire, with the possibility of working cross campus.</p></li><li><p>This position is a blended position and will perform duties of the Maintenance Repair Worker 2 classification.</p></li></ul><p>Performs preventive maintenance and service (e.g., tunes gas and/or diesel engines; inspects engines checking for leaks, worn or close components, fluid levels, belt and hose conditions and/or mounting; inspects underbody checking for leaks, loose or worn components in suspension, steering and/or drive train; inspects brakes looking for loose or worn components, proper adjustments and/or leaks; changes fluids; operates electronic system scope) on cars, trucks and equipment (e.g., mowers, tractors, graders, weed eaters, generators) and repairs, rebuilds and/or replaces major parts (e.g., carburetor, alternator, water or fuel pump, clutches, brake systems, exhaust systems) and/or motorcycles.</p><p>Performs minor repairs or miscellaneous mechanic work (e.g., inspects tires/wheels looking for damage, leaks or wear; cleans or replaces diesel injectors; adjusts valves; performs body repair work; replaces shocks; repairs or replaces hydraulic pumps or systems; installs snow plow blades; repairs hydraulic systems).</p><p>Maintains records of repairs and maintenance; (e.g., daily time sheets); orders and/or picks up parts; provides service and repair of vehicles and equipment on emergency basis; and/or makes onsite service/outpost calls (e.g., replaces flat tire; repairs air leak in brake system; repairs wear items on heavy equipment; performs guardrail replacement); operates welding torches in order to repair snow plow blades, frames, dump and flatbed truck bodies and/or related equipment, cleans garage area, equipment and/or tools; mows grass and/or operates snow plow, tow truck or other equipment; pumps gasoline; attends training schools; safety meetings, mechanic meetings or related meetings; operates motor vehicle in order to transport equipment/materials/supplies to and from job sites.</p><p>Performs skilled or semi-skilled repairs: Makes alterations and/or repairs to buildings, equipment and wooden structures (e.g., doors, windows, walls, woodwork, floors, partitions, spot roofing, security devices, locks, HVAC, kitchen equipment); repairs electrical problems (e.g., lighting fixtures, switches, outlets, motors, electrical circuits); repairs plumbing problems (e.g., water lines, trap fittings, plumbing fixtures, pumps, sinks, toilets, faucets, piping, drains); if assigned and licensed, boilers.</p><p>Maintains general maintenance and appearance of school grounds and facilities: Cuts grass, rakes leaves, trims hedges, removes dead trees or tree limbs; removes ice and snow from sidewalks and/or driveways; uses appropriate equipment (e.g., snow remover, tractor, lawn mower).</p><p>Performs other duties as assigned (e.g., washes vehicles, drives school vehicles as needed, unloads delivery trucks, picks-up supplies).</p><p>24 mos. exp. in automotive repair &amp; maintenance of variety of vehicles or equipment. The final applicant accepted for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use. <br><br> An applicant with a positive test result will not be offered employment, per Section 3719.01 &amp; 3719.41 of Ohio revised code.
