One of the goals of the City of Berkeley's YouthWorks Employment Program is to provide a variety of employment/training/career exploration opportunities for participants ages between 14-25.
Program Objectives for YouthWorks:
Offer part-time, temporary jobs
Introduce youth to the world of work
Provide opportunity for career exploration
Allow youth to gain valuable work experience
Expose participants to relevant trainings associated with professionalism and young adulthood

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria in order to be considered for YouthWorks:
Must reside in Berkeley and provide one (1) valid Proof of Residency document
Must submit a complete City of Berkeley Employment Application
Must answer all required Supplemental Questions
Must attach a resume to the application
When requested, applicant must provide verification document(s) to complete the application process. Applicants who do not provide this documentation will not be selected to move forward.
After an application has been reviewed and accepted, YouthWorks will require submittal of Proof of Residency verification documents.
If applicant is under the age of 18: Proof of Residency documents MUST be in the name of the applicant's legally recognized guardian. The same guardian will be required to sign a residency affidavit for the application to be considered.
If applicant is age 18 or over: Proof of Residency documents MUST be in the name of the applicant and the applicant can sign the residency affidavit.
Acceptable Proof of Residency Documents
Utility bills:
PG&E Bill
Solar Bill (Must indicate physical address of service)
EBMUD Bill
Garbage Bill
Cable Bill (must indicate physical address of service)
The above bills are the only acceptable utility bills for use as proof of residency; cell phone bills, report cards, auto/home insurance are not accepted. All bills, regardless of applicant's age, must state most recent activity. Bills dated prior than 45 days of the application date will not be accepted.

APPLICATION PROCESS
Applicants must submit a completed application, resume, and responses to the supplemental questionnaire. Please note that while resumes are required, they are not a substitute for a completed application.
Applications are available in alternative formats (audio-format, braille, large print, electronic text, etc.) upon request to ada@berkeleyca.gov. Please allow 10 days for production of the material in an alternative format.
After application has been reviewed and accepted, applicant will be asked to submit employment eligibility documents and proof of Berkeley residency.
The intent of this employment program is to offer professional experience to our participants and to prepare them for future job searches and endeavors. Therefore, the City welcomes youth with paid or unpaid work experience. Be sure to list all work experience including volunteer work, chores done around the home or miscellaneous jobs done in a neighborhood or with family. Also include internships, extracurricular assignments at school, church, and organizations.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT PROCESS
Candidates under final consideration for employment with the City will undergo an employment background/reference check that may include, but is not limited to: employment history, confirmation of educational credentials and degrees, licenses including driver's license, registrations, certificates, other credentials, credit check, criminal history check, and Live Scan fingerprinting.
