As a Youth Enrichment Instructor (YEI) you will implement and adapt a wide variety of enrichment activities for grades K-8 in a before or after school program setting. The YEI plays a key role in ensuring that program participants have a safe, supportive, interactive and enriching program experience while ensuring the safety and security of all program participants.

Salary range of $15.90-$16.40 per hour

Position Responsibilities:

  • Create a safe, supportive, interactive and engaging environment for youth that is characterized by teamwork, camaraderie and inclusiveness. This includes demonstrating an appreciation of the youths' efforts and accomplishments and providing assistance and encouragement to program participants when needed.

  • Provide effective supervision of youth that is age-appropriate, considers diverse abilities and interests and meets program quality, safety and policy requirements.

  • Positively interacts with youth, parents/guardians and other team members to create a respectful, warm, supportive environment. Models self-control, respect and cooperation to teens and other team members. Utilizes youth arrival/departure ensure to share information with parents/guardians and to build relationships.

  • Prepares lesson plans on a daily and/or weekly basis outlining program activities, ensures materials and supplies are available and ready for daily program activities, and ensures all program areas and supplies are clean and well maintained regularly.

  • Maintains accurate attendance, instructional and other records as necessary to meet program requirements.

  • Participates in team meetings and other special events

Requirements & Preferred Qualifications for this position are:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and/or 5 years older than the oldest child that participates in the program and meet program requirements for education and/or credentials.

  • H.S. Diploma or GED along with related college coursework and/or equivalent experience in: child care, education, recreation or related program. Additional educational or experience requirements may be required based on program license requirements.

  • Must have the proven ability to establish constructive relationships and interact as a positive role model for youth and staff demonstrating the values of respect, responsibility, caring and honesty.

  • Commitment to and passion for the YMCA of Metro Chicago's mission is required including a passion for working with diverse youth.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely present ideas and concepts and tailor communication to multiple audiences.

  • Meets physical qualifications required as outlined in job description.

This is a full-time position with full benefits offered.</p><p>Job Summary: As a Youth Care Worker you will provide for the physical and emotional needs of adolescent residents (ages 12-18) in a group home setting. Youth Care Workers will also be working with the Group Home Team to ensure the safety and appropriate supervision of residents.</p><p>Essential Functions:</p><ul><li><p>Work cooperatively with other staff in planning and supervision of recreational and leisure time activities within Group Home and community, assisting in planning and carrying out of therapeutic activities for assigned residents</p></li><li><p>Consult with Group Home Supervisor before making major decisions pertaining to a resident</p></li><li><p>Enforce and maintain consistency concerning policies, rules and licensing standards</p></li><li><p>Properly manage funds disbursed for client services</p></li><li><p>Make frequent decisions regarding residents activities and behaviors, know whereabouts of each resident at all times, coordinate coming and going of each individual in residence</p></li><li><p>Maintain directions for the use of all medications and alert manager to any need for medical attention</p></li><li><p>Teach and assist residents in life skills (i.e. maintenance of their rooms and assigned areas of Home, good personal hygiene practices, meal preparation and clean up)</p></li><li><p>Perform required data entry &amp; recordkeeping for daily logs and resident files</p></li><li><p>Maintain proper privacy and security of residents and staff on duty by exercising control over admission of visitors and use of telephone</p></li><li><p>Process resident intakes and discharges, including required documentation</p></li><li><p>Participate in individual supervision with Supervisor</p></li><li><p>May act as a mentor/preceptor for YCW and/or newly hired employees</p></li><li><p>Maintain CPR and First Aid certifications</p></li><li><p>Participate in ongoing training, staff meetings and meet all Agency and/or DCFS requirement</p></li></ul><p>Qualifications:</p><ul><li><p>High School Diploma Required</p></li><li><p>Bachelors degree in Human Services/related field from an accredited school preferred</p></li><li><p>Minimum age of 21</p></li><li><p>Must have &amp; maintain acceptable driving record</p></li><li><p>Comfortable working with children ages 12-18</p></li><li><p>Must possess excellent organizational and decision-making skills &amp; be flexible and willing to work weekend and/or evening shifts</p></li><li><p>Must have demonstrated ability to work appropriately and effectively with the adolescent population</p></li><li><p>Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word required.</p></li><li><p>Must reside in Illinois, this is a in person position.</p></li></ul><p>The full-time shift is 7 AM to 3 PM and 3 PM to 11 PM.
