The Connections is a collaboration between Urban League Metropolitan Seattle (ULMS) and Roosevelt Alumni for Racial Equity (RARE). The selected candidate will divide their time equally between Garfield and Roosevelt High Schools.

Job description

The Youth Engagement Coordinator works to cultivate an expanding network of student leaders who share a vision of belonging and racial equity, and who work together to build a welcoming and positive school culture, where all students are appreciated for who they are and have equitable access to educational resources. This role teaches students about belonging and leadership in a series of Workshops and then supports the students as they put those learned concepts into action by organizing community-building activities, which expand the culture of inclusivity and inspire the next generation of student leaders. Primary responsibilities included student recruitment, workshop facilitation, activity supervision, collaboration with school personnel, and the pivotal role of serving as a dependable and trusted adult within the school community.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • 1+ years' experience working with "opportunity" or "at-risk" youth.

  • Knowledge of the Seattle Public School system

  • Ability to work with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.)

  • Proven ability to build relationships and trust quickly.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

  • Willingness and ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, when necessary, consistent with the demands of the students and schools.

  • Successful candidates must have access to reliable transportation, an essential requirement for this position.

  • Punctuality.

  • High School Diploma; bachelor's degree in a related or relevant field preferred.

ULMS Total Compensation

Most Benefits will take effect on the 1st of the month following a 60-day waiting period

  • Medical - $8,325 per year

  • Dental - $570 per year

  • Vision - $65.04 per year

  • Group Life & ADD - $39.90 per year.

  • 403(b) retirement - $100 per month

  • Professional Development Funds - up to $1500 per year for approved professional development activities.

Paid Time Off

  • ~ 3.5 weeks of PTO accrued annually during the first 24 months of employment

WA State Paid Family & Medical Leave

  • 0.8% of salary

  • 100% employer-paid

Workers Compensation Coverage - $395.20 - $3,591.33 per year (depending on class code)

Taxes

  • 9.8% of salary
