A Youth Development Programmer job is available with the City of Fort Worth Parks and Recreation Department, Community Services Division Sycamore Community Center. The Late-Night Program began in 1992 as a response to the increase in gang involved youth, providing support for afternoon, evening programming such as afterschool and youth sports as well as extended hours for older youth and young adults. The program goal is to decrease youth participation in crime and gangs through a number of enrichment and recreational activities designed to reduce crime, stimulate self-determination and increase community pride. The Late- Night Program (FW@6) will focus on five (5) core elements, which studies have proven provide alternatives to crime: Education/Personal Development, Employment Readiness, Recreation, Life Skills, and Community Responsibility.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Sports Management, Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field

  • Two (2) years of responsible community center service or recreational programming experience.

  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, certifications in Adult and Child CPR/AED and First Aid within the first 6 months of employment.

  • One year or more experience with at-risk teen programming and community outreach.

The Youth Development Programmer job responsibilities include:

  • Participates in the promotion, planning, coordination, development and implementation of a wide variety of recreational, leisure, athletic, educational programs for an assigned Community Center.

  • Balances daily athletic transactions; complies weekly, monthly, and yearly financial reports for review by management personnel.

  • Participates in the development and implementation of program goals, objectives, policies and priorities. Recommends and implements resulting policies and procedures,

  • Identifies opportunities for improving methods and procedures; identifies resource needs; reviews with appropriate management staff; and implements improvements.

  • Coordinates community center activities with those of other divisions and outside agencies and organizations to develop community programs and address community needs; and assists in special events.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations.
