PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Youth Development Professional (YDP) will plan, implement, supervise, and evaluate activities specifically designed for transitional kindergarten (TK) and kindergarten age children in areas such as early childhood education, social recreation, arts & crafts, and physical education. The primary focus will be to provide engaging, developmentally appropriate programming that fosters learning and growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote and stimulate participation in age-appropriate programs for TK and Kindergarten members.
  • Register new members and facilitate their orientation to the Club.
  • Provide nurturing guidance and role modeling.
  • Implement and administer engaging, educational, and recreational programs, services, and activities for young children.
  • Provide support with early literacy and numeracy skills, including daily educational games and activities.
  • Maintain attendance records and manage documentation required for program operation.
  • Order and maintain supplies needed for age-appropriate activities.
  • Address inquiries and concerns from parents and teachers.
  • Communicate any program needs or concerns to the Director or Coordinator, such as additional staffing or resources.
  • Prepare schedules of weekly and monthly activities tailored for young learners.
  • Maintain logs tracking the development and progress of members.
  • Ensure programs are safe, effective, and meet the developmental needs of members.
  • Monitor and evaluate the safety and quality of programs and the cleanliness of the facility.
  • Oversee and guide children's behavior, maintaining order and reinforcing the rules of the club and play areas.
  • Keep the environment clean and organized, ensuring spaces are sanitary and safe.
  • Develop methods to prevent injuries and respond to accidents.
  • Foster a productive work environment by participating in staff meetings focused on early childhood education.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in special programs and events aimed at early childhood development.
  • May be required to assist with transportation needs for children, including obtaining appropriate driving certifications.
  • Assist in other program areas as needed and assume additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required. ECE units preferred
  • Experience working with transitional kindergarten and kindergarten age children, demonstrating an understanding of their developmental stages and needs.
  • Familiarity with early childhood educational techniques, developmental milestones, and age-appropriate behavior management strategies.
  • High level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality essential for fostering a stable and nurturing environment for young children.
  • Ability to provide guidance and structure in educational activities, adapting instructions to meet the diverse learning styles of young children.
  • Ability to interpret and execute instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; capable of making informed decisions when faced with routine choices.
  • Ability to inspire and engage young children while effectively managing typical behavior issues in early childhood settings.
  • Proficient in interacting with the general public, particularly parents and caregivers, to build trust and communicate effectively about children's progress and needs.
  • Ability to organize activities and supervise young children in a manner that ensures their safety and security.
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid certifications; TB clearance required.
  • Must possess a valid CA Driver’s License if responsible for transporting children.

ENVIRONMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Tasks are regularly performed with moderate exposure to environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, and temperature and noise extremes. 

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Tasks involve the ability to exert physical effort, typically involving some combination of standing for long periods of time, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds.
