GENERAL PURPOSE:

Provide quality coaching for youth lacrosse program for ages 4 - 15. Includes instructional classes as well as recreational team development. Hours are less than 20 per week and require evenings as outlined below:

Spring hours - approx. 4:30-7:30 pm Wednesday evenings, April 8 - 29 plus additional weeks if necessary for make-up days.

Summer hours - approx. 5:00 - 8:00 pm T/Th evenings beginning June 2.

Hiring rate is $12.50 per hour.

Position will close to applicants at 4:30 p.m. M.S.T. on Friday, June 5, 2020.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Instruct participants, develop and implement lesson plans, set up and inspect program environment and equipment to ensure safety, complete administrative tasks including skill assessments, attendance, class evaluations, and more.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Strong knowledge of rules and regulations of sport required. Excellent communication skills are required.

Ability to work with a diverse group of people effectively and diplomatically. Strong customer service skills and communication skills are required.

Ability to handle difficult situations involving participants with patience, good judgment, and diplomacy.

Education and/or formal training:

Course work in recreation, education or related field preferred.

Material and equipment directly used:

Equipment associated with the various sports

Working Environment/physical activities:

Must be able to physically lead and demonstrate the skill/activity. May require pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing,positioning and moving heavy equipment. Incumbent must possess the strength and stamina to perform strenuous physical activity.

VIEW JOBS 3/7/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-06-05T00:00 GENERAL PURPOSE: The successful Youth Athletic CARA Coach is responsible for overall organization and coaching of the CARA youth swim team at Winona Outdoor Pool. Must be available to work early mornings, some evenings, weekends and holiday hours. Must be at least 18 years of age. All offers are conditional upon a satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check and pre-employment drug screen. Salary range: $12.00-$19.00 per hour depending on qualifications and experience. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: * Conducts early evening swim team practices to enhance the swimming ability of all team members. * Responsible for the safety of swim team members while practicing or participating in a meet. * Ensures that the only people in the pool during swim team practices are registered team members. * Coordinates car-pooling to swim meets, recruiting necessary volunteers to assist with activities and meets. * Attends CARA meetings as scheduled. * Attends meets held at facilities other than Chilson Recreations Center Pool OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: * May be required to cross train into other areas for duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY DUTIES: * Assist with the supervision of any volunteer coaches who may be working with team members. * Supervises all program practices and team members. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, skills and abilities: * Must possess superior knowledge of proper swim stroke techniques and competitive swim training techniques. * Must possess the ability to interact diplomatically with youth, parents and other staff members. * Ability to demonstrate the skills of good judgment and patience, and the ability to schedule workouts and meets. * Must have the ability to react quickly and correctly in emergency situations and will be required to perform the necessary lifesaving procedures. * Must possess the ability to make sound judgments, exercise conflict resolution, and exhibit patience when dealing with stressful and/or disciplinary situations. * Responsible for ensuring the safety of all participants in their swimming classes by safe and proper usage of equipment and facilities. * Must report to work area wearing appropriate swim clothing and attend regularly scheduled staff meetings as required. * Must be at least 18 years of age. Education and/or experience: Competitive swimming experience preferred. Licensure and/or certifications: Current Lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid certification required. Current WSI certification preferred. Material and equipment directly used: Stop watches, kickboards, leg buoys, swim fins, hand paddles and other swim accessories, etc. Working Environment and Required Background Checks: Must possess the physical stamina to effectively demonstrate safe and proper swimming technique to participants. Work is performed in a public pool environment; expect exposure to noisy, distracting and stressful situations as well as exposure to various pool and cleaning chemical smells while performing duties. Requires standing for long periods, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, moving and positioning up to 50 pounds. Must be at least 18 years of age.
