Summary
This student summer internship position sponsored by a collaboration among En Nuestra Lengua, Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum and Jewish Family Services is designed to achieve action steps toward:
Enriching the educational experience for all students through adapting existing MBGNA discovery guides to Spanish for and by Spanish-speaking communities.
Develop Spanish-language communications (brochures, e-letter, web-based information) that provides a welcoming and culturally diverse environment, through Spanish-language centered narratives and storytelling that uplifts family and culturally based values, memories and practices.
Make visible the scholarly output through dissemination in academic journals and scholarly forums with special attention to sharing findings through community-based presentations in Spanish and English.
The intern will develop inclusive Spanish-language structures and culturally relevant materials that support a welcoming environment for Latino/a community members, in particular those immigrant families that are part of En Nuestra Lengua and Jewish Family Services. The student intern will work closely with grant partners to co-create inclusive educational materials, including STEAM related K-12 activities, family programming and pop-up activities for youth and families. The internship program runs May 6 through late August and includes evening and weekend hours.
