Position Summary Information

Position Summary

Identifies and cultivates strategic community relationships to facilitate mentor recruitment, volunteer opportunities, and overall community engagement to the mutual benefit of Young Scholars and community partners. Responsible for planning and executing community engagement and volunteer activities for Young Scholars, their families, and mentors. Provide support to the department director and employees, assists in daily office needs and database management, and assist with logistics, catering and other event specific duties. This position is also responsible for record keeping associated with mentorship and family engagement activities.

Community Engagement and Event Coordination:

  • Recruit mentors into the Young Scholars program and manage the training program including transparent communication of expectations and roles within the organization.

  • Proactively identify and build community relationships to create volunteer and enrichment opportunities for Young Scholars, their families, and mentors.

  • Develop and execute community events and volunteer opportunities for Young Scholars, their families, and mentors.

  • Maintain social media platforms, including Mentor Facebook page, to communicate with stakeholders and tell the Young Scholars story in a compelling fashion.

  • Help develop and participate in after school programs in the community.

  • Communicate community and school resources to benefit Young Scholars and their families.

  • Use the Remind App for communication with Young Scholars and their families.

  • Work some weekends and evenings for YSLPP special events.

  • Responsible for working with other team members to achieve successful results on all established individual and departmental goals.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Participate and engage in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives and programs, including but not limited to serving on DEI committees, serving as a diversity advocate or community liaison for a job search, advising a club, facilitating DEI-related training, and engagement in institutional cultural and celebratory events and programming.

  • Takes an active role in the development of the department's strategic and operational plans as required by department leadership. Works closely with department supervisor to develop and implement operational goals that support departmental success.

  • Responsible for working with supervisor and other team members to achieve successful results on all established individual and departmental goals and key performance indicators.

  • May perform other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Driving Responsibilities

This position may occasionally involve regional travel using a University-owned or University-rented vehicle.

Travel Supervises Education & Experience Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred/Associate's Degree required. Will consider comparable experience in lieu of stated degree requirement.

  • Prior experience including proofreading, travel logistics, appointment scheduling, event planning and coordination required.

  • Prior experience in recruitment or hiring preferred.

  • Prior experience working with a budget preferred.

  • Word, Excel, and database management preferred.

Minimum Skills/Abilities

  • Strong organizational skills and high regard for detail are required.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and non-verbal communication skills

  • Possession of excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong Computer Skills

  • Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
  • Interest in the use and application of upcoming technology, new software, etc.

  • A strong commitment to diversity and equity.

  • Possession of a valid U.S. driver's license that will meet insurance company rules and regulations for driving underwriting criteria

  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends as appropriate, a must.
