Short Description

The purpose of the Yardworker position is to utilize the expertise of the candidate to support the needs of the branch in a professional, safe and timely manner. An individual in this position will work to keep all equipment clean and organized in order to provide our customers reliability, consistency and the highest standards possible. This individual is knowledgeable of heavy equipment and construction equipment. He/she has mastered the operating standards of the facility, the region and corporation.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, maintain and organize heavy equipment, construction equipment and various pieces of machinery

  • Review special orders from management

  • Read invoices and shipping statements and file them properly

  • Deliver/pick-up of parts and equipment from various locations.

  • Assist in the loading/unloading of rental equipment

  • Maintain work area and yard area in an organized manner

  • Assist with service and maintenance record keeping

  • Perform other duties as assigned

We currently have multiple Maintenance Worker positions in the Drinking Water and Wastewater disciplines. These positions perform a wide variety of utility service maintenance-related tasks, primarily in a training capacity. Tasks include the repair and maintenance of equipment, facilities, utility lines, etc. Work is often strenuous and repetitive and is performed on the basis of clear instruction or direct supervision. The Maintenance Worker job classification is an entry level position. Upon successful completion of a training matrix, employees in the Maintenance Worker classification will advance to the Skilled Worker classification: Salary Range: $4,502.25 - $5,658.34/month; $25.97 - $32.64 per hour plus benefits. Advancement generally takes from 12 to 18 months depending on previous experience. First review of appliations will be done January 28th. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Water Maintenance Worker Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Under direct supervision, performs general duties necessary to the repair, installation and maintenance of the water infrastructure and facilities. Work is often strenuous and repetitive. * Uses backhoes, hydro excavators, combination jet/vacs, dump trucks, truck and trailer combinations, air hammers, articulating boom cranes and trench shoring equipment. * Performs maintenance to utility equipment and defective meters and meter boxes. * Routinely performs inspection, preventive maintenance and repairs on key operating components of the City's utility infrastructure such as valves, pipelines, hydrants, valves, blow-off assemblies, and air/vacuum release valves. * Conducts traffic control / flagging in the city's rights-of-way. * Responds to emergency calls: customer requests, main and service breaks, and water turn off/on requests. Wastewater Maintenance Worker Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Under direct supervision, locates, installs, maintains, repairs and inspects sewer mains, laterals, manholes, clean-outs, and dosing chambers. Work is often strenuous and repetitive. * Performs hydro-cleaning, mechanical rodding, and system flushing of pipelines. * Performs condition assessment of manholes and clean-outs. * Performs CCTV inspection of mainlines and laterals. * Responds to emergency calls: customer requests, mainline backups, and overflows. * Responds to telemetry alarms, mechanical problems, and power--related failures at pump station sites. * Use backhoes/trac-hoe, dump trucks, truck and trailer combinations, 2-way radios, forklifts, etc. * Conduct traffic control/flagging in the City Right-of-Way. * Must be comfortable working in or around raw sewage and Wastewater facilities. To be considered to start at a higher rate, candidates must have the following: * Washington State Class A CDL with Air Brake endorsement and ability to obtain Tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire. * Minimum of 2 years' experience working with underground piped utilities. Qualifications * Basic mechanic skills/knowledge. * Knowledge/experience in construction. * Excellent customer service experience with the general public. * Basic computer and keyboard skills. * Demonstrated ability to work effectively on teams. * General knowledge and ability to interpret maps, drawings, and records. * Demonstrated ability to adhere to safety procedures, work rules and guidelines. * Possess excellent verbal, listening and interpersonal communication skills. * Must be able and willing to work overtime (including nights and weekends). * Required to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis. * Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's license by date of hire. Must have and maintain a good driving record by City Standards. * Must be able to obtain a Washington State Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a tanker endorsement within six months of employment. * Selected candidate must pass a pre-employment flexibility test and physical capacity test, we do this during the final interview process. * Selected candidate must pass a pre-employment drug test. * Prior to obtaining CDL, selected candidate must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test (consistent with Federal Laws requiring drug and alcohol testing for all job classifications requiring a CDL). Other Working Conditions & Physical Demands * Must be able to lift up to 90 lbs. and engage in considerable pulling, pushing and climbing. * Work is done mostly outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Common hazards include traffic, underground lines, chemicals and equipment. * Individuals must have adequate hearing and visual acuity to successfully perform the essential job functions and requirements of the position. * Individuals must be able to hear, speak and understand verbal communication and other outside sound sources.
