Insurance Auto Auctions is searching for a Yard Attendant I to join the team at our facility in San Diego, CA.

We provide Sellers and Buyers with the best solution to process and acquire total-loss, recovered-theft, fleet lease, dealer trade-in and collision damaged rental vehicles.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to the following):

  • Vehicle check-in by recording and filing information on incoming vehicles being assigned to the facility.

  • Detail (thoroughly clean) vehicles to improve their appearance for purposes of enhancing their value at auction.

  • Operate passenger vehicles in a safe manner for the purposes of moving the vehicles around the facility and/or participating in drive-through auctions.

  • Recover keys, license plates, and other information or objects from vehicles at the facility and store them in the appropriate locations at the branch.

  • Assist visitors by providing appropriate guidance and/or directing them to the appropriate person for additional assistance.

  • Receive training in forklift/loader operation.

  • Immediately report all violations of company policy to a supervisor or manager.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Driver's License and be willing to learn how to operate a forklift.

  • Capable of interacting effectively and supportively with customers & towers.

  • Capable of performing and/or assisting with light maintenance of vehicles.

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. and perform activities that involve stooping, bending, standing, and walking for reasonable periods of time.

  • General mechanical knowledge of makes and models of vehicles required.

  • Ability to function well as part of a team.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience in the equipment rental or construction industry and/or related field preferred

  • Basic automotive repair skills

  • Previous forklift operating experience is a plus

Working Conditions:

  • This position involves primarily outdoor work in all types of weather.

  • Must remain alert to potential hazards associated with heavy equipment and other vehicles operated in their work area.

REPORTS TO: Project Managers SUPERVISES: None AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: * Effectively interacts with internal organizations to answer action items, resolve program issues, and facilitate good communication. * Develops presentations on program status and performance for senior management reviews. * Uses Earned Value Management System (EVMS) to compile and provide reports on performance trends by project. * Reviews and analyzes cost return information, identifying cost/schedule variances * Works with Cost Account Managers (CAMs) to develop corrective actions. * Supports the development of CPR and Format 5 monthly reporting. * Supports Project Managers, as needed, effectively manage their projects. * Resolves daily program and project issues that range from engineering and material issues, to subcontract, finance and resource challenges. * Coordinates the preparation of estimates of direct labor and material for new or proposed business using historical or synthesized data for review by management. * Develops and implements processes and databases to support the Program. * Attends meetings, captures meeting minutes and/or action items. * Liaison with Customer representatives for technical issues, to answer action items, resolve program issues, and facilitate good communication. QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE: * 5 years' relevant experience in Shipbuilding or Navy Technical background required. * BS or BA degree preferred * Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Power Point, Word, Outlook and Excel) * Excellent communication and problem solving skills. * Works independently, self-starter, must be able to take initiative and follow projects through to completion. * Detail oriented and able to resolve most daily issues without specific supervisory direction. * Positive and effective experience with customer interaction and relations. * Shipbuilding or Navy Technical background required * Advanced knowledge of LCS Program; familiarity with the shipbuilding preferred * DIRECTION EXERCISED: Organizes and executes task workloads for selected individuals within defined program scope. Monitors and controls resources within assigned scope of work and reports on progress as required. DISCRETION EXERCISED: Work autonomously. Resolves moderately complex issues escalates complex issues through the department chain of command. Works within established guidelines and relevant procedures. LIAISES WITH: Program Managers, Project Managers and Coordinators, all Production Departments, Subcontractors, Functional Leads, Production Control, Engineering, customers and clients, all support organizations across the company, and surveying authority(s).
