Job Summary:

A career as a Computed Tomography (CT) technologist is exciting for those who are passionate about health care, patient comfort and saving lives. As a technologist, you are asked to operate CT scanners and to ensure that the procedure produces quality images and information for the health care professional to make an accurate diagnosis. You have the chance to work and interact directly with patients as you ensure that they are comfortable and calm. Utilize your medical knowledge by interviewing patients, explaining the procedure and placing the patient in the appropriate spot on the table. Technologists are also organized, detail-oriented people who are familiar with the anatomical area that is being scanned and the patient's history. Develop relationships with patients as you help diagnose their condition as an CT technologist.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Operate equipment for imaging and anything related on various areas of the body in order to provide high quality images and information for patient diagnosis.

  • Address patient concerns during the procedures, and explain the CT process to the patient in a way that is informative but also reassuring.

  • Use tact, courtesy and poise when dealing with patients, keeping them calm and ensuring that they get the best care possible.

  • Communicate effectively with other radiologists and health care professionals to ensure the message is getting across appropriately.

  • Troubleshoot peripheral equipment and scanners to ensure that equipment is operating properly to avoid downtime or delays that affect patient satisfaction.

  • Ensure patient safety with aseptic injection technique and pre-screening for any contra-indications before the procedure.

  • Provide training to new technologists with regular checks, direction and qualified work samples performed by an experienced team member.

  • Handle high-stress environments in a calm manner when dealing with patients, technicians and physicians.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Will assist technologist in Digital Radiology, C-Arm operation

  • Will be assigned departmental Call for CT/Radiology on a rotating schedule

  • As assigned by Director

  • Other Job Duties as needed

KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITIES:

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Self-motivated and self-directed

AGE-RELATED COMPETENCIES: Demonstrates the basic knowledge and skills necessary to identify age-specific patient needs appropriate for this position.

Information Management: Treats all information and data within the scope of the position with appropriate confidentiality and security.

Risk Management/Quality Management/Safety: Cooperates fully in all Risk Management, Quality Management, and Safety Activities and Investigations.

MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiology.
  • Work Experience
  • 1-3 yrs. CT experience preferred
  • Training- 1-3 yrs. CT experience

  • License/Certification

  • ARRT and State of New Mexico certifications; current compliance with CME requirements for specialty(ies) as appropriate.

ENVIROMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work environment consists of daily patient contact, which may include exposure to blood, or other body fluids.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The CT Technologist operates the computed tomography imaging equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes. Frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to stand, stoop and lift and walk without restrictions.
