The studies performed are: 12 lead electrocardiograms, HOLTER monitor applications, and stress testing. Formal training in electrocardiology techniques/terminology preferred THIS POSITION IS PER DIEM Job Description Details: ECG Testing: • Maintains privacy. * Skin prep and electrode placement accurately on chest and extremities to insure proper positioning and can name anatomical sites. * Records patient information on EKG machine * Attaches leads to electrodes * Able to operate machine in code situation. * Reviews EKG tracing during test * Troubleshoots and produces high quality artifact free tracings. * Cleans patient post procedure * Returns bed to low position with call bell and needed belongings in reach. * Prepares tracings for physician to read * Alerts physician to any tracing that demonstrates a significant abnormality. * Demonstrates ability to prevent, recognize and report abuse. Equipment Use: • Utilizes and troubleshoots printer and fax machine. * Identifies and reports equipment problems to coordinator and/or clinical engineering in a timely manner. EKG Duties and Transcription: • Reviews requests from computer for accuracy and completeness, pulls correct prior EKGs. * Proper labeling of EKG report with name, date, time, and room number * Files accurately, attaches EKG to correct priors. * Scans all tracings on the same day as typed. Maintains the confidentiality of all records. * Maintains current EKG files. * Accurately transcribes reports. * Processes daily charges in Meditech Holter Monitoring: • Instructs patients about test with regard for the cultural and age related needs of the adolescent, adult and geriatric patient, and adjusts communication accordingly. * Maintains privacy. * Accurate prep and lead placement, knowledge of anatomical sites. * Prepares monitoring equipment by proper tape insertion battery inspection. * Educates patient and family concerning diary, physical limitation while wearing monitor, length of test and when to return, using appropriate communication as it relates to the specific population served. * Maintains logbook and holter equipment in proper condition. * Cleans and maintains holter equipment after each use. Heart Station Processes: • Maintains a neat work area. * Tracks, orders, obtains and stores supplies. * Identifies and informs coordinator of special ordering needs. * Takes and delivers messages in a timely manner. * Distributes mail/reports properly and in a timely fashion. * Effectively organizes and uses time. * Aware of insurance carrier requirements such as referrals. * Works proactively with registration and billing for accurate charging and credit of cardiac diagnostic studies. Stress Testing: • Instructs patients about procedure with regard for the cultural and age related needs of the adolescent, adult and geriatric patient, and adjusts communication accordingly. * Maintains privacy. * Interview and preps patient and reviews medical documents for pertinent history. Verifies informed consent. * Establishes baseline heart rate and blood pressure measurement. * Explains/instructs in use of treadmill and normal physiological response to exercise. * Explanation of the physiologic agents and antidotes, if indicated. * Monitors EKG and blood pressure during recovery phase. Reports abnormal responses to the physician. * Completes clerical functions and utilizes the computer to complete billing information * Accurately completes logbook. * Cleans and maintains testing equipment after each use. Patient Education: • Incorporates reinforcement of education into procedures (EKG, Holter monitoring, stress testing). * Individualizes educational communication based on age, cultural and spiritual values. * Assists with monitoring learning needs, readiness to learn and barriers to learning. * Communicates patient education to health care team members. * Instructs patients about test with regard for the cultural and age related needs of the population served and adjusts communication accordingly.
