Engineering (17) Division: WTP 2 - Auger (39) Opening Date: 09/12/2024 Closing Date: Continuous Position Summary Starting Hiring Range: $51,597.31 - $63,206.71, annually Under supervision, this position performs water quality monitoring, testing, and reporting in compliance with TCEQ and USEPA requirements for the City's water treatment plants and distribution system.

Essential Job Functions Assists the WTP Water Quality Technician in performing water quality monitoring and compliance in accordance with TCEQ and USEPA directives. This includes: performing monthly water distribution flushing and daily distribution disinfectant readings; performing monthly TOC, SUVA, and chlorite samples; obtaining and shipping additional water samples required EPA and TCEQ; represents the city at community events regarding water treatment processes and plant functions. Assists with the operation and/or operating of the water treatment plants, as assigned.

This may include performing various laboratory tests and analysis required for effective operation of the water treatment plant. Interacts with various contractors, vendors, and patrons and assists them by providing information in a timely manner. This includes responding to and seeking resolution to customer complaints and inquiries regarding taste, odor, pressure, and physical characteristics of the drinking water, which requires answering phone calls, responding to voicemails and emails, and meeting with patrons in-person while providing quality customer service.

Responsible for maintaining records in accordance with policy, state schedule, or federal requirements. Performs all other duties as assigned. Education and Experience High school diploma or GED equivalent, is required.

Minimum one (1) years of experience in water treatment or water operations with a basic knowledge of chemistry. Technical training in water treatment field is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of chemistry and mathematical principles.

Knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to the treatment and distribution of drinking water. Ability to operate lab equipment and perform various chemical and physical laboratory tests. Ability to prioritize work and multi-task to include problem solving.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with regulatory agencies, industrial clients, and the general public. Ability to work in a safe manner.

Ability to interpret charts and flow diagrams. Skill in the use and application of computers and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems. Ability to operate the Tayman and Auger water treatment plants without supervision.

Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly. Special Requirements Subject to be on-call during non-working hours. This position is classified as a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment.

Licenses & Certifications Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record as established by the City of Midlothian driving standards. TCEQ Water Class C (Surface Water) license, is required. Work Environment Work is primarily performed in both an outside (occasionally during inclement weather) and a climate-controlled office environment.

May be exposed to chemicals and gases in the work environment. Physical demands include sitting, standing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and reaching. May be called upon to perform heavy manual labor (lifting up to 50 lbs.) on occasion. 01 Are you a current employee with the City of Midlothian?
