WSU AmeriCorps: Peace Connections

Peace Connections is a local nonprofit housed in the Red Door Community Building at 209 S. Pine Street in Newton, Kansas (approximately 20 miles north of Wichita). Since 1983, Peace Connections has brought individuals, families, and organizations together to create a thriving community sustained by peace and social justice.

Peace Connections' Summer Enrichment Activities for Kids (SEAK) program has been revamped to broaden in scope and impact. Through collaborative efforts with the local restaurants and businesses, SEAK 2.0 utilizes the USDA Free Summer Meal program to combat hunger and food insecurity among children and families in our community. Additionally, SEAK 2.0 increases positive relationships and community support through consistent volunteer support and relationship-building activities.

The Summer Enrichment Coordinator will continue to build capacity, assess impact, develop programming, and build community through Peace Connections SEAK 2.0 program by coordinating, scheduling, and documenting program volunteers, events, and activities.

Member Duties : Summer position from May 22 through July 28, 2023. Peace Connections seeks an energetic, self-motivated, and organized individual to help coordinate the fifth year of our Summer Enrichment Activities for Kids (SEAK 2.0) program and fourth year of providing USDA Summer Meals, located in Harvey County.

Peace Connections, Inc provides a comfortable and flexible work environment where resources and agency networking happen regularly. Members will coordinate with the local agencies as they serve meals; direct volunteers; develop children's activities for the concurrent youth program; update our manual; and review relevant documents related to the manual.
