Workshop Lead

Monumental is automating on-site construction with robotics and software. Our mission is to make construction primarily software-defined and work towards a future where beautiful, bespoke buildings are built within a single day with minimal labour.

We're a small team of mostly engineers (coming from companies like Palantir, Qualcomm, Dyson, Shopify, Tesla & Meta) that is looking to expand the operational part of our business. We're still in the first days of building the company and this is a unique opportunity to be an early employee in a high-growth, high ambition startup environment. About You and This Role

We are looking for a skilled workshop and manufacturing lead to join our fast growing workshop team. You will be working together with our machine shop and assembly technicians and responsible for running the small series production of our robot fleet. Help us bring our robots to life and join our mission to bring automation to the construction industry to create affordable, beautiful, high quality housing for everyone.

As a workshop lead, you'll primarily be responsible for the delivery and day-to-day operations of our future production rounds for building masonry robot systems. Our construction robot hardware includes autonomous ground vehicles, small construction cranes, supply systems and end effectors. In addition, the workshop team also maintains our existing robot fleet and support R&D prototyping work.

You will have managerial responsibilities for 5+ assembly and manufacturing technicians. You will ensure on-time delivery of high-quality robot systems, while leading improvements in process and operational efficiency. You will continuously seek out, foster, and spearhead improvements to all aspects of our production process. You will ensure quality standards are being met throughout the entire production process and support no subassembly and system defects from leaving our manufacturing workshop. During regular utilisation of our robot fleet, you will lead the maintenance of our fleet to reduce down-time and any degradation of our hardware.

What You'll Be Working On

• Oversee our workshop manufacturing and assembly team's day-to-day operations, 1:1s, and stand-ups to optimize for productivity increases and set organisational standards

• Managing projects from conception to completion. You will ensure projects are delivered on time and to the highest quality.

• Help to recruit, develop and onboard new members of the workshop team.

• Work closely with our R&D team to lead efforts to transition subassemblies from prototype to small series production.

• Manage our workshop equipment and inventory, ensuring we have the necessary tools and materials for upcoming projects. Your planning will prevent potential blockers and keep our production line running smoothly.

• Manage relationships with suppliers to oversee the procurement of tools, machinery, and supplies.

• Promote a culture of safety within the workshop, maintaining a clean and organised working environment. You advocate best practices in design and manufacturing among our team.

What We're Looking For

• Experience managing, or leading a team of 5+ as a senior member of a team.

• Previous industry experience using machine tools, e.g. CNC mills, lathes, or 3D printers. You have breadth and depth of knowledge in manufacturing best practices.

• Adept at identifying issues and coming up with efficient solutions. Your background allows you to intuitively understand how components could or do fit into larger systems.

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment. You are flexible, able to adapt to changing priorities, and continuously learn new skills.

• Demonstrated ability to organise, plan, and execute projects effectively. You are adept at managing multiple complex projects simultaneously.

• You are experienced with managing small series production batches, bills of material, product life cycle management, using modern tools that are a fit for an early stage startup.

• Excellent organisational and communication skills that mean you can articulate complex ideas clearly and work collaboratively with technicians and engineers to refine designs.

• Quality-obsessed and passionate about innovation and problem-solving. You are always looking for ways to improve processes, reduce costs, and increase efficiency.

Bonus Points

• Experience with CAD design.

• Experience with design for manufacture (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) processes.

• Experience assembling or wiring electronics.

• Dutch language
