About Our Job
The Office of Risk Management is seeking a Summer Safety and Industrial Hygiene Intern to join our Workplace Safety Team. In this role, you will work with our team and our business partners to conduct safety site audits, develop job safety analyses, conduct facility audits, and analyze accident reports, contribute to the City's Emergency Preparedness Program, and assist with the Citywide AED management program. You may assist with loss analyses, insurance claims adjusting, participate in risk related trainings, and entering of property insurance data into the City's property management system. You will obtain a working knowledge of Risk Management's city-wide policies and procedures, emergency procedure guides, and safety standards while working with many agencies throughout the city. This opportunity is available from June 2024-August 2024.
As an intern, you will have the opportunity to experience:
Assist with identify hazards in the workplace, and assist in the implementation of corrective actions
Assist with Risk Management processes
Assist with entering property insurance data
Asist Denver Fire Department with high-rise building evacuation exercises
Working with City agencies to implement safety practices
Develop safety training
Create job safety analysis forms
Schedule work site audits
Inspect work sites
Perform other related duties as assigned
About You
Our ideal candidate will have/be:
Current Junior or Senior enrolled in a Risk Management, Environmental Health and Safety, or Occupational Health & Safety program leading to a Baccalaureate Degree
Ability to multi-task
An excellent communicator, both in writing and verbal
Must demonstrate a high level of attention to detail
Proven to take responsibility for assigned tasks and prioritize workload in fast paced environment
Passion for excellent customer service
Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
Excellent organization skills

Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a certificate, licensure, associates, bachelor's, or higher degree in, or a recent graduate (completed specified program within 1 year of completion).

Education and Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted

Location Flexibility
The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. This positions is primarily on site or in the field, there will NOT be a lot of remote work opportunity.
