POSITION: WORKING GROUNDS FOREPERSON
Improves, maintains and repairs all grounds for the school campus located on School Road. This includes common areas, athletic facilities, playgrounds, walkways, parking lots, access roads, trees, shrubs and flower beds. Guides the work of two full-time and two seasonal groundskeepers. Coordinates the Mile of Safety traffic control responsibilities.
Supervised and Evaluated by:
The Director of Facilities
Coordinates the maintenance of all exterior school property and facilities. This includes the following:
Daily trash removal
Coordinate trash pick-up by carting company
Mow all campus grass areas (athletic and non-athletic property)
Prepares and maintains the following athletic facilities:
1 Football Field (artificial surface)
1 Soccer Field (artificial surface)
1 Soccer Field (natural turf)
3 Softball Fields (natural turf)
2 High School Baseball Field (natural turf)
2 Little League Baseball Fields (natural turf)
1 T-Ball Field (natural Turf)
1 Shot Put Area
2 Sand Pits for Long Jump
Monthly trimming of all shrubs at all locations
Maintain and repairs to irrigation systems
Line athletic fields
Mulch and weeding of flower beds
Mulch and upkeep of five playgrounds
Daily inspections of all playground equipment
Curb and asphalt repair
Stripe and letter all parking lots
Install, maintain and repair all exterior signage
Clean roof drains and catch basins
Maintain all bleachers
Maintenance and upkeep of all equipment used in grounds
Coordinates plowing of all roadways, parking lots and sidewalks
Move furniture, equipment and supplies between buildings
Traffic control and cone layout during school days
Maintain and repair fencing
Coordinates traffic control duties and other tasks related to safety on the campus with the Director of Facilities and the security staff.
Assists and monitors the work of outside agencies and contractors during the maintenance and repair of grounds.
Assists the Director of Facilities with capital projects that impact grounds.
Electronically obtains and closes out corrective and preventive work orders.
Develops professional skills, attends continuing education sessions to ensure the technical competency and teamwork required to provide quality service; receives guidance and support, relating to work techniques, from the Facilities Director.
Assists the Director of Facilities with after hours emergencies and performs other duties as assigned.
Must have a High School or Trade School diploma to perform this job.
Must have a minimum of ten years experience in grounds maintenance and five years of coordinating and guiding the work of groundskeepers.
Must have superior customer service skills and demonstrate an exemplary attitude in all dealings with our customers internally and externally. Will have daily contact with customers, as a regular dialog is required to achieve optimum success.
Other alternative qualifications as determined by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee
Proper tree care and trimming.
Proper road and sidewalk maintenance/repair.
Best practices in grounds maintenance.
Laws, ordinances and regulations regarding pest control.
Effectively coordinate the work of others.
Interpret and work from plans, diagrams, blueprints and manufacturer's specifications.
Follow oral and written instructions.
Read and write at a level required for successful job performance.
Work cooperatively with others.
Work for prolonged periods during inclement weather.
Keep work records.
Maintain inventory of parts and supplies.
In a shop and field environment must perform heavy work, including pushing/moving items weighing up to 100 lbs., with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and poles, etc. one or more stories above ground level. Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Must work in inclement weather or other adverse conditions (tight spaces, dust, fumes, extreme heat, etc.) with appropriate clothing/equipment.
Contract terms & Conditions:
Must submit to fingerprinting and full criminal, sex offender, and child abuse background check, in accordance with BOE policy.
12-month position, Salary & Benefits outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between:
