Job Summary

This position exists to provide Job Service services and WorkForce Center information to job seekers through orientations, group instruction, and 1:1 assistance with a priority on serving Unemployment Insurance Applicants and Veterans; to help businesses access services available to them; and to provide all job seekers with the information necessary to help them make informed career choices. The incumbent provides career guidance consulting and resources to job seekers and provides training on how to seek employment through Creative Job Search classes, Resume Writing classes and other employment-related workshops. The incumbent will provide technical and information resources so that Workforce Customers have access to information, including topics on careers, labor market information, job openings, job skills requirements, assessment tools, and education and training institutions.

Duties include:

  • To provide career guidance assessments, counsel, advice and services to customers at a WorkForce Center; coach, teach and assist job seekers in improving their job search skills and tools, refer them to in-house and online services, or respond to any other needs they may have in regards to their work search so that customers are better able to identify career goals and conduct a successful job search

  • To organize and facilitate Creative Job Search, Resume Writing and other employment-related workshops so that job seekers can identify career goals, write effective resumes and post them on, understand and use the most effective job search techniques, and find a job that matches their skills and abilities.

  • Conduct training/orientation sessions and provide basic career services to Unemployment Insurance (UI) applicants in the Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment (RESEA) program and other UI special programs, Dislocated Workers, universal customers, and other special populations to provide them a basic understanding of careers, job search techniques, and services available through the WFC.

  • To answer questions from job seekers and businesses by phone or in person regarding WFC services.

  • Perform other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience and/or education in conducting or facilitating classroom training for adults.

  • Professional and/or para-professional experience in career guidance, vocational counseling, job placement or similar functions such as social services, adult education, or employee training.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree is strongly desired.

  • Ability to read, write and speak fluent Somali language is preferred for this position.

This position will manage the logistics for multiple programs, keep accurate records of program progress and outcomes, interact with internal and external leaders to create reports and write content for PowerPoint presentations, handouts, and online/SharePoint publications. Effective January 6, 2019, there will be a general salary adjustment of 2.5% to the minimum and maximum of the range. Location and hours: This position is located in the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487. Work hours will be Monday through Friday during core hours for customers. About the position type: This position is a full-time, benefit-earning position. You must be a current regular or probationary employee of Hennepin County to be eligible for this position. In this position, you will: * Keep accurate records of programs and outcomes, develop reports using Excel and APEX; maintain pathways work tools for print and on the web; design presentations and materials; work with various internal contacts within HR and external contacts to gather relevant data to prepare documents and reports. * Prepare materials and handouts for the Organizational Development team; enter StrengthsFinder classes in APEX; administer 360 surveys and other leadership development assessments; provide support and tracking for new supervisor on-boarding portal and process; track development plans for Succession Planning; and organize facilitation materials, notes and reports. * Coordinate the New Employee Academy invitation and registration process with employees and supervisors; assist coordinators with planning and implementing academy events including marketing and communication; and prepare materials and handouts. * Coordinate meeting logistics, prepare agendas meeting minutes, manage communication needs for the Hennepin Workforce Leadership Council; provide administrative support for the workforce development program director. * Develop communication items and presentation materials for internal and external audiences; revise or create presentation materials using PowerPoint.
