Position Summary

The Workforce Planning and Development team is part of Duke Energy's amazing HR Function, where we strive for excellence in building capabilities that help the company execute our business strategy. We partner with internal and external organizations in building strategies to ensure we have a long-term pipeline of talent, promote economic mobility in the communities we serve, and act as champions of workforce development in each of our jurisdictions.

The role: Workforce Development Consultant leverages internal and external relationships and workforce planning data to advance the company's workforce development strategy. The successful person in this role, will be excited about building and executing innovative career awareness and education pathway programs, while leveraging regional and local partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Support department and regional leadership in the development and implementation of workforce development strategies.

  • Partnering with local education institutions, workforce development and community organizations to address Duke Energy's future hiring needs.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with administrators of colleges, high schools, middle schools and other education partners.

  • Work closely with school districts and educational partners to identify and establish opportunities for programs that develop the necessary skills for the future workforce

  • Building and maintaining positive, collaborative relationships with key internal stakeholders (e.g. HR Business Partners, Duke Energy State Presidents and staff, Government Relations, Community Relations, Economic Development and other key stakeholders) to identify, manage and coordinate workforce development strategies.

  • Develop regional strategies that leverage our investment in workforce development through grants, scholarships, sponsorships, and philanthropy.

  • Monitor programs to ensure compliance with company policies and standards

  • Represent Duke Energy as needed, in public venues, community events, and educational forums

  • Build advocacy through representation in local, regional and national organizations important to the company's workforce development strategy

Working Conditions

  • This position will require frequent local and overnight travel

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Graduation from a four- year college or university and five (5) or more years of experience OR a minimum of nine (9) years of related work experience without a degree

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master's degree preferred

  • Background in education, youth development, workforce development or related issues

  • Established network of working relationships with local technical or community colleges and other skills based educational programs, high schools or other workforce related community programs

  • Experience working in philanthropy, government, nonprofit or policy organizations or in programs for vulnerable youth populations is a plus

  • Understanding or working knowledge of government or philanthropic grant requests

  • Proven examples of building innovative solutions in the context of workforce development strategies

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently

  • Experience providing detailed, timely, and accurate project progress reports

  • Experience building and maintaining positive, collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required to analyze complex issues, develop logical conclusions and make appropriate recommendations

  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and display effective negotiating skills when dealing with diverse stakeholder expectations

  • Demonstrated presentation skills and ability to facilitate large/small groups in an effective manner

  • Effective interpersonal skills, e.g. influencing and listening skills to work effectively with all levels of employees and management

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Experience working effectively with all levels of employees and management

  • PHR or SPHR Certification
