The Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Workers' Compensation, is recruiting fora Workers' Compensation Technician located in Juneau!

The position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a range 12.

What you will be doing:

This position works in the Fishermen's Fund (Fund) section of the Division of Workers' Compensation. The Fund is a statewide program that provides medical benefits to commercial fishermen who are injured or become ill while working in Alaska.

The incumbent evaluates claims for benefits, verifying completeness of the application, eligibility of the applicant, and compensability. The incumbent also processes medical bill payments.

The mission of the Fishermen's Fund is to provide for the treatment and care of licensed commercial fishermen who have been injured while fishing on shore or off shore in Alaska.

This position contributes to the Fund's ability to meet this mission, by providing information and guidance on obtaining benefits and helping injured commercial fishermen with their medical expenses.

  • Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work. Ability to accurately work within a case management system to maintain client files and pay bills.

  • Strong communication and customer service skills: Experience explaining complex concepts and/or Statutes and Regulations.

    Exceptional oral and written communications skills. Experience answering the telephone and interacting with the public and co-workers in a professional manner.

  • Identifies rules, principles, or relationships that explain facts, data, or other information; analyzes information and makes correct inferences or draws accurate conclusions to determine benefit application qualifications.

  • Understands, interprets and applies what is learned from written material, including technical material, rules, regulations, instructions, regulations or statutes to specific situations.

Two years of journey level clerical work experience, performing tasks that require applying general programmatic and/or administrative knowledge and skill to complete assigned tasks. The required experience includes, but is not limited to, work such as Office Assistant 1 job class with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.

OR

One year of advanced level clerical work experience, performing tasks that require determining administrative and/or programmatic tasks to be completed, prioritizing work, and deciding the appropriate action to be taken based on interpretation and application of the organization's programs, policies, and regulations. The required experience includes, but is not limited to, work such as Office Assistant 2 job class with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.

Substitution:

Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required one year of journey clerical experience (3 semester or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience).
