This position takes responsibility for the underwriting and policy administration related to Workers Compensation.

Underwriting Responsibilities

  • Analysis of prospect submissions.
  • Review of payroll information, loss runs, and business information of prospect.
  • Submission of the application to the insurance company for possible coverage.
  • Follow up with sales for additional information as requested by carrier underwriting.
  • Communication with sales and client until the policy is approved.

New Policy Procurement Process Responsibilities

  • Provision of posting materials.
  • Provision of binders to include policy information.
  • Communication with internal departments relating to policy securement.
  • Promptly handles various requests from Agents and/or Underwriters through phone and written correspondence.
  • Certificate of insurance writing.
  • Manages account documentation (i.e., proposals, internal risk evaluation documents, etc.).
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Works on special projects as needed or assigned by Risk Management department


  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and other database software.
  • Working knowledge of insurance coverages, procedures, and rating.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Familiar with NCCI and Workers Compensation independent rating bureau websites and rate, rule, and form manuals.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work efficiently.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years experience with Workers Compensation.
  • Policy Service background with emphasis in Workers Compensation.
  • Experience with: Agency Management Systems, various Policy rating and issuance systems; (IMS, Insurity, Policy Decisions a plus).
  • Strong background in Workers Compensation labor code preferred.
  • Working knowledge of WC Rules/Forms, Auto Liability, DMV, and Motor Carrier filings.

The core lines of business include: Workers Compensation, General Liability and Auto Liability.</p><p>Responsibilities</p><p>The Executive Underwriter will:</p><ul><li><p>Handle day-to-day servicing for a book of large, complex, loss-sensitive accounts.</p></li><li><p>Underwriting Fortune 100 companies with annual premium in excess of $1 million minimum.</p></li><li><p>Be responsible for growth and retention of assigned book.</p></li><li><p>Negotiate the annual pricing, terms and conditions on renewal business.</p></li><li><p>Work on new business opportunities with key brokerage houses in the Pacific North Region, design and propose appropriate program structures and pricing for said opportunities.</p></li><li><p>Maintain and develop relationships with their brokers and clients.</p></li><li><p>Develop a pipeline with our major trading partners, as well as engaging other business units for cross-selling opportunities.</p></li><li><p>Engage with National Brokers</p></li><li><p>Learn in a fast-paced, dynamic environment</p></li></ul><p>Qualifications:</p><ul><li><p>Bachelor's degree</p></li><li><p>At least 7+ years underwriting experience including time spent in the primary casualty loss sensitive space</p></li><li><p>Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite</p></li><li><p>Presentation and public speaking skills</p></li><li><p>Strong negotiations skills</p></li><li><p>Local broker and insurance marketplace relationships</p></li><li><p>Knowledge and understanding of current insurance marketplace conditions</p></li><li><p>Understanding and adherence to organizational and regulatory rules, and ability to adhere to underwriting authority</p></li><li><p>Understanding of Workers Compensation, General Liability, and Auto Liability Insurance coverage, terms and conditions - included but not limited to ISO AL &amp; GL and NCCI Workers Compensation coverage forms and endorsements.</p></li><li><p>Understanding of large deductible programs and the credit and collateral implications of such programs</p></li><li><p>Ability to identify risk exposures, special or common hazards, and appropriate controls. Ability to select risk based on exposure and hazard analysis.
