About this Position
The Engineering Work Zone Inspector conducts technical inspections of Temporary Traffic Control Work Zones (TTC) to secure compliance with specifications and City ordinances for construction, maintenance, or utility work being performed on the public streets. The Work Zone Inspector's work involves responsibility for reviewing TTC plans, issuing permits, and inspecting TTC installations to determine whether plans and materials conform with established City of Edmond Work Zone policy requirements and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).

Responsibilities
Meet with contractors, developers, engineers, city departments, and public and private utility companies to discuss work zone policy requirements
Review work zone plans against the City's work zone policy and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
Issue temporary work zone permits
Make field inspections of temporary work zones to ensure compliance
Prepare reports and maintain inspection logbook/records on inspection activity and the status of all work zones in progress
Read and stay current on part six of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation standard specifications for traffic control facilities
Interpret TTC requirements and recommend compliance procedures to contractors and owners
Create maps using the City's Arc Map system to show current locations, durations, ownership, and contact names of all current and proposed work zones in the City
Work with the City's Risk Management Department to conduct TTC training classes for City crews responsible for setting up work zones on city streets
Attend work zone safety conferences
Maintain City-wide traffic counts
Observe conditions and issue notices for corrections
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent
2 years of related experience and/or training
Or equivalent combination of education and experience
7-11 months of management experience
People and/or project management
Must possess, or obtain within one year of employment, Traffic Control certification from the American Traffic Safety Services Association, or certification from another national organization
Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
Necessary Skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Office, etc.)
Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position
Ability to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug and audio screenings
