Job Summary

The Work Scheduler is responsible for utilizing information from many sources, such as business systems, work planners, work management teams, etc., to produce and execute work schedules for EPB field personnel. The Work Scheduler is responsible for planning, assigning, and executing necessary preparation tasks for primary energy and communication infrastructure work. This position manages and prioritizes daily work driven by customer milestones, operational maintenance, and emergency restoration. The Work Scheduler is ultimately responsible for collaborating with the Work Planner position to create an actionable plan mitigating all possible obstacles to the crew's ability to complete the work efficiently. Real-time assignment changes to maintain maximum efficiency and effectiveness while meeting changing priorities, including planned and emergency response work, are a daily integral part of this position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Produce efficient and productive work schedule for EPB field resources based on many sources of information regarding customer and operational priorities.

  • Meet or exceed the customer's expectation of work regarding timelines and quality.

  • Manage the daily tasks of current projects through field coordination and decision-making including traffic control coordination, material issuance, underground locates, customer outages, caution, and clearances.

  • Effectively communicate project due dates by phase to facilitate resource allocation and scheduling.

  • Coordinate with groups like construction, preventative maintenance, project management, and energy services to plan and execute work.

  • Coordinate all aspects of construction including efficiently notifying and scheduling fiber optics installation.

  • Plan staffing and needed resources to meet work order commitments while maintaining productivity measures.

  • Remain proactively aware of upcoming deadlines to secure appropriate resources.

  • Identify all internal project stakeholders and coordinate the smooth flow of work.

  • Resolve customer issues and work with customers as needed for best-case resolution.

  • Communicate and expedite revisions and resolve customer-effecting issues with engineering and design.

  • Manage projects with a keen eye on financial parameters, ensuring adherence to budgets ranging from $15 to $20 million.

  • Effectively communicate information from the field to customers or other departments on outstanding tasks for planned or emergency work.

  • Provide valuable input in work planning sessions to prioritize and allocate resources with construction leadership.

  • Actively participate in the work management team to prioritize and plan operational maintenance work (non-customer-driven); take priority work from this team and implement it effectively.

  • Maintain exceptional documentation regarding customer communications, milestones, and delivery date changes to track EPB work progress accurately.

  • Maintain EPB data systems to support accurate reporting of scheduling and field work activities.

  • Act as a single point of contact for the customer in coordination with the Work Planner from the approval of a primary work project by Electric or Fiber Design through operational completion.

  • Field and coordinate key customer requests from Energy Services while working with design and project managers on key customer-driven project timelines.

  • Suggest ideas to improve or create new processes and procedures and discuss them with the immediate management team.

  • Design and create emergency work orders and job packs during outages and emergency response situations.

  • Contribute to various storm work roles in-office and in the field as needed.

  • Available to work 24/7/365 - Shift Work; Regular work hours include evenings, overnights, and weekends; Overtime is required - mainly during storms or other system events. Working on holidays for operational needs may be required.

Education and Experience

  • Associate degree with a background in industrial technology or journeyman-level trade apprenticeship in the electric field.

  • 3+ years' experience in electric construction and infrastructure development.

  • Ability to work and communicate in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

  • Knowledge of basic office systems such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to become proficient in all EPB business system applications used to plan, assign, execute, and monitor work, including Pragma, CAD, EnQuesta, Omnia, OMS, GT Viewer, RESCO SPAN, and other applications used in daily operations.

  • Demonstrated excellent organization, analytical, time management, and customer service skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with customers.

  • Customer-focused mindset, committed to delivering high-quality results and exceeding customer expectations.

  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to anticipate and address project risks and obstacles.

Certification(s) & Other Requirements

  • Must be able to participate in an on-going on-call rotation that focuses on the convenience of our customers.

  • Ability to accept responsibility, think independently and make logical decisions as it relates to field issues during day-to-day operations and planning.

  • Possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in the state of residence and demonstrate safe and responsible operation of motor vehicles.

  • Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions from management, field personnel, customers, and the general public clearly and concisely.

  • Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, probability, and statics. Must have the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees of the organization.

  • Ability to complete required reports, written and on the computer.

Physical Demands

  • The work environment typically represents a standard office setting.

  • At times, the work will require detailed analysis and planning to schedule work for optimum efficiency. At other times, the environment will be stressful as assignments are made to deal with system emergencies.

  • The regular work hours for this position will include evenings, overnights, and weekends.
