Status: Part Time

This is supervisory work directing and inspecting the work of a group of non-skilled or semi- skilled inmates engaged in the maintenance and cleaning of public properties. A position in this class provides supervisory leadership of inmate personnel and is responsible for the satisfactory completion of a designated work project. The work performed is routine supervisory work involving assigning and inspecting inmate performance on a wide variety of jobs requiring little technical knowledge or skill. This work is performed under general supervision of a higher-level Work Program Leader or a Work Program Supervisor.

TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only)

  • Provides continuous supervision for a group of inmates; supervises the group in all activities of work programming including basic maintenance and cleaning activities.

  • Schedules work to be performed, work areas, and work hours; sees that safety precautions for the inmate crew and public are enforced; instructs in the use of cleaning equipment; supervises and directs the collection of rubbish, lawn mowing and other grounds-keeping tasks.

  • Supervises and operates light automotive or power equipment; directs the mowing, sodding, seeding, irrigating and fertilizing of lawns; oversees the clean-up of cemeteries, dumps, and other public property in disarray; monitors repair and maintenance of fences, windbreaks and other park-type facilities; installs snow fences and similar devices.

  • Supervises the work of inmates in sweeping and mopping floors, washing windows, polishing furniture, dusting woodwork and other cleaning tasks.

  • Explains work assignments to inmate crew and supervises their work, and checks for proper completion of assignments.

  • Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Some knowledge of basic maintenance and cleaning skills and the proper and safe use of a variety of hand tools, power equipment and cleaning apparatus.

  • Some knowledge of techniques of park maintenance, such as seeding, sodding, rolling, mowing, raking and sprinkling of lawns, and of the spraying and pruning of trees and shrubs.

  • General knowledge of elementary accident prevention precautions applicable to the work performed.

  • Ability to direct others in the economical and efficient use of time.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.

  • Ability to give clear instructions and operate simple machinery and equipment.

Schedule:

7:30 to 2:30 First Shift. Flexible based on need.

Experience:

Completion of 12th grade, and one to two years experience in basic maintenance, cleaning, and trade skills; some supervisory experience. Or any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience which has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities cited.

Education:

G.E.D. or High School Diploma

Comments:

Valid driver's License required.

Must commute between several work sites.
