Position: Oklahoma Christian University invites applications for a Program Chair of the Work-Based Nursing Program to begin in the fall of 2023. This faculty member will serve as the administrative head of the university's work-based nursing program. Responsibilities include evaluating the curriculum, staffing the division, reviewing faculty performance, and creating an atmosphere conducive to the growth and success of working students in order to help solve the nursing shortage in the state of Oklahoma. The chair will work collaboratively with on-campus program faculty and the Director of Online Learning to establish relevant goals and develop plans to achieve them. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Outreach and Innovation and the Dean of the College of Sciences and Education, the chair will promote retention and relationships with work-based students through proactive communication, prompt responses to student-initiated communication, and troubleshooting academic and administrative barriers for students. This position will often work remotely to maintain relationships with hospital partners around the state and plan program integration in the work setting. Day-to-day activities may vary but will include working with a variety of university faculty and staff and hospital partners to coordinate services and support for work-based nursing students.

Primary Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Nursing or MSN and Doctorate in a related field preferred; minimum Master of Science in Nursing and seven years of clinical experience in the field required

  • Undergraduate teaching experience preferred

  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, academic administration, and teaching as well as the ability to work collaboratively with individuals and groups

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and the ability to communicate and positively engage students and colleagues across racial, gender and cultural barriers

  • Active engagement in a life of Christian faith and service which includes membership in a local church

  • Tech-savvy and familiar with learning management systems and other tools for student data management

  • An active listener able to turn suggestions into actionable advice and implement changes

  • Highly developed communication skills (including verbal, written, and interpersonal skills)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Position requires some travel to hospital partner sites

  • Provide leadership for the development, maintenance, coordination and evaluation of the Bachelor of Science of Nursing (BSN) Degree.

  • Works with faculty to develop and implement short and long range strategic plans for the Work-Based Nursing Program.

  • Promotes Credit for Prior Learning as appropriate for students with related healthcare education and work experience and develops pathways for accelerated program completion for students with extensive work experience.

  • Responsible for assisting in the acquisition of resources for the Work-Based Nursing Program.

  • In collaboration with the chair(s) of the on-campus track, files appropriate administrative reports required by the State of Oklahoma and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

  • Participates in the academic administration of the Work-Based Nursing Program and serves on administrative and other committees and task forces as elected or appointed.

  • Oversees national and international spiritual and humanitarian efforts on behalf of the Work-Based Nursing Program.

  • Promotes the goals of the Work-Based Nursing Program while contributing to the overall success of the College of Outreach and Innovation and nursing program in harmony with the mission of Oklahoma Christian University.

  • Evaluating and developing faculty competence in and out of the classroom.

  • Overseeing all teaching assignments in the Work-Based Nursing Program in collaboration with the Director of Online Learning.

  • Seeing that teaching assignments fulfill university expectations. The teaching load for faculty is 24 hours during the regular academic year, typically 12 hours during the fall term and 12 hours during the spring term.

  • Promoting faculty members' personal career satisfaction. Faculty should develop improved skills and productivity as a result of the director's leadership and encouragement. He or she should find ways privately and publicly to encourage, recognize, and reward teaching excellence.

  • Working with the faculty to assess student learning and development in the courses and programs.

  • Serving as an articulate spokesperson and model of Christian values in administering the Work-Based Nursing Program.

  • Developing, justifying, and managing the Work-Based Nursing Program's budget. That process includes requests for adjuncts and regular faculty additions.

  • Utilizing effectively the facilities and equipment which are available to the program, including partner sites.

  • Administering school's academic programs and working with the faculty to keep the curriculum current.

  • Coordinating the development of library materials needed by the Work-Based Nursing Program.

  • Conducting strategic planning for the Work-Based Nursing Program in collaboration with the Dean of the College of Outreach and Innovation and the Dean of the College of Sciences and Education.

  • Working with the Admissions Office to coordinate faculty efforts in recruiting students for programs.

  • Developing resources for the work-Based Nursing Program by assisting administrators with enrollment management and fundraising.

  • Assisting the college dean with the search for new faculty.

  • Communicates the University's spiritual mission through prayer with and for students and sharing Scripture in communication

  • Other related administrative duties as assigned
