The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

Under the supervision of Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority personnel the student will gain experience with:

  • Performing requested repair work in a productive and efficient manner

  • Performing Oil Changes & Lube in an efficient manner

  • Performing multi-point inspections

  • Performing Tire Changeovers & Wheel Balancing

  • Performing quality assurance inspections of transit bus contract cleaning operation

  • Providing the Supervisor with an estimate of any additional repairs needed

  • Assisting fleet mechanics with generator service

  • Overseeing vehicle car wash

  • Assisting parts department with picking up parts

  • Performing NC state vehicle emission and safety inspections

  • Servicing grease fittings, universal joints and steering knuckles, using hand or compressed air powered grease gun

  • Inspecting fluid levels of steering gear, power steering reservoir, transmission, differential, rear axle housings

  • Checking air pressure of tires

  • Draining oil from crankcase and refill with required amount of oil

  • Adding water to radiator and battery

  • Replacing oil and air filters

  • Balancing and rotating tires

  • Performing related work as requested

Students Must Have Knowledge of:

  • General knowledge of automobiles

  • Technology involved in automotive repair

Students Must Have Skill in:

  • Written and verbal communication

  • Problem solving

Students Must Have Ability to:

  • Learn new technology in automotive repair

  • Keep automated repair and service records and reports

  • Work effectively in a teamwork environment

  • Meet schedules and deadlines

  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions

Hiring Range: $15.82 to $16.54 per hour
