HelpDuties Summary

You will serve as a WOODWORKER (BLOCKER & BRACER) in the Distribution Branch, Cargo Movement Section of NAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR PEARL HARBOR, which provides wide-ranging logistics and supply support services to our joint warfighters, allied forces, and coalition partners in teh Mid-Pacific and beyond.

  • You will make and repair wood supply, storage, and shipping containers, which typically require complete custom building involving complex construction plans and work procedures.

  • You will plan, lay out, and construct the complete range of standard and non-standard shipping/storage containers, including containers for items of irregular size and shape.

  • You will use and maintain various types of hand and/or power tools for woodworking.

  • You will certify transportation of hazardous materials via all modes.

  • You will perform a wide variety of standard and specialized preservation and/or packing work.

  • You will determine methods and materials and develop plans for special bracing/blocking demands.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

  • You will be required to be certified to work with and/or remove hazardous materials.

  • You will be required to lift, carry, and position tools and materials weighing up to 45 pounds and often move or position extremely heavy items using jacks, levers, floor hoists, cranes, or assistance from other workers.

  • You will be required handle explosives and ammunitions.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. requiring you to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

  • You must be removed from military recall status.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.


Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. The Screen-out Element for this position is: the ability to do the work of a WG-4604-08 Wood Worker demonstrated through experience, working under normal supervision, using prescribed techniques and methods to plan, construct, or repair standardized shipping and/or storage container; using prescribed fastening devices, wood or wood composite materials to build shipping/storage containers; using a wide range of standard manual (hand tools) and power woodworking, pneumatic and strapping tools.
