Bachelor's Degree. No coaching experience, but experience rodeoing in women's events required.

Equipment/Skills: Tractor operation, general animal husbandry, livestock handling, communication.

Preferred

Master's Degree.

Primary Responsibilities

Function: The Women's Assistant Rodeo Coach is responsible for coaching the Women's Rodeo program. The Women's Rodeo Coach is expected to set high standards in academic and scholarly excellence, personal integrity, professional competence, and professional ethics. They will work to enrich the emotional well-being of the student athlete through proper role modeling and the demonstration of high ethical standards and behavior.

Duties

  • Supervise women's team practices, competition activities, and student athletes.

  • Recruit student athletes for the Women's Rodeo team who possess individual traits indicating good character and person goals reflecting a desire for academic and athletic success.

  • Retain student athletes for the Women's Rodeo team and assist student athletes with academic counseling.

  • Treat animals in a humane and caring manner that is exemplary

  • Organize and participate in departmental meetings including:

  • Planning and evaluation of practices.

  • Participate in all Team meetings.

  • Help organize and produce fundraising events.

  • Inventory, selection and/or purchasing of supplies and/or equipment.

  • Preparation and submission of all necessary reports and NIRA paperwork.

  • Building and facilities maintenance.

  • Grounds Maintenance.

  • Picking up trash and litter, planting, digging, driving and hauling, and;

  • Operating tractors and other equipment necessary for the care of animals and grounds.

  • Operate as a team in the mutual promotion of the College Agriculture Programs.

  • Be available during non-traditional work hours to address impromptu situations involving the College.

  • Communicate an accurate image of the College to the public. Be a positive and active representative of the College.

  • Support college activities and special events through attendance and/or participation.

  • Comply with all College policies, rules, and regulations.

  • Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times.

Supervision

Received: General oral instructions and observations from supervisor, Rodeo Coach.

Given: Supervise student workers and student athletes.

Working Conditions

Usual: Requires flexible work hours around rodeo practice schedules and events. Arrange schedule to meet needs for weekend events requiring facilities at the Turner Ranch Animal Science Center. Requires weekend travel with the team to college rodeos and fundraising events. Outdoor and indoor arena.

Position is Security Sensitive

Any qualifications to be considered in lieu of stated minimums require the prior approval of the Human Resources Director.

Other Information

Texas Law requires a 60 day waiting period before new state employees are eligible to enroll in health insurance.

The report contains information regarding campus safety and security including topics such as: campus law enforcement authority; crime reporting policies; campus alerts (Timely Warnings and Emergency Notifications); fire safety policies and procedures; programs to prevent dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking; the procedures the University will follow when one of these crimes is reported; and other matters of importance related to security on campus. The report also contains information about crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in On-Campus Student Housing Facilities; in Non-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University or a recognized student organization; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also contains fire statistics for any fires occurring in an On-Campus Student Housing Facility during the three most recent calendar years.

Sul Ross State University Alpine Campus is in the Scenic Davis Mountains of West Texas, is a member of the Texas State University System, is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate, Bachelor's, and Master's degrees, and has an enrollment of approximately 2,000 students of campus in Alpine, Texas. RGC offers upper-level courses leading to bachelor's degrees as well as master's degree programs and works closely with its partner institution, Southwest Texas Junior College, to provide a seamless transition to RGC for their students. All RGC students hold an Associate degree from an accredited institution or they have completed 42 semester credit hours of transferrable work.
