Job Description

Summary

Plans layout, installs, and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

§ Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.

§ Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.

§ Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.

§ Installs control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels.

§ Connects power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor, and installs grounding leads.

§ Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter.

§ Repairs faulty equipment or systems.

§ Immediately report all Incidents/Accidents, no matter how small, to their Supervisor.

§ This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

§ Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit's success also may be assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

§ High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

§ Alaska Wireman's Fitness Card.

§ Ability to read and interpret drawings.

§ Knowledge of power distribution systems.

§ Industrial experience in Oil & Gas preferred.

§ Driver's License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy preferred.

The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The employee must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Color vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and/or smell. Safety toed boots required on the job.
