The wireless systems R&D team at NI, in partnership with the leading wireless researchers in industry and academia, is behind the wireless industry's most impactful innovations for 5G, including the earliest channel sounding measurements at mmWave frequencies, and the first real-time prototypes of all-digital beamforming massive MIMO at sub-6 GHz and analog/hybrid beamforming at above 6 GHz. Being one of the few companies that developed expertise on both the infrastructure and mobile side of 5G, we are now leveraging this internal know-how to solve the design and test needs of the leading vendors and carriers in their deployment of 5G technology. The senior/principal wireless systems engineer for 5G MAC/upper layers will drive the development, integration, and testing of the MAC and upper layer stack software on both the base station and UE side. He/she will be responsible for the end-to-end testing with both internally developed and commercial base stations and UEs, including commercial test equipment, for both sub-6 and mmWave systems; working closely with the L1 team, external partners, and customers.
As one of the senior technical leaders for the MAC and upper layer software, he/she will help transform NI's focus on physical layer development and testing, to full end-to-end system-level development and testing, maintaining key partnerships with stack vendors and customers, and help drive the roadmap for future offerings.
Develop, design, and maintain the MAC and upper layer SW architecture for our 5G offerings
Drive interactions with external stack partners for both LTE and 5G, including development guidance, troubleshooting, and feature planning for roadmap items
Drive end-to-end testing of 5G base station and UE offerings, including interoperability testing with internal systems and external commercial equipment, including test equipment
Track developments in the 3GPP RAN2 standards, including standards attendance and contributions as needed
B.S. Degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science
Proficiency or relevant industry experience in MAC/upper layer stack design/development/testing
Proficiency with C/C development and testing for MAC/upper layer software
M.S./Ph.D. in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science
5 years of related industry experience in MAC/upper layer stack design/development/testing
Experience with proprietary and/or open-source protocol stacks for LTE/5G NR
Experience with end-to-end lab and/or field testing of LTE/5G base stations or UEs
