Pay Grade:

Mid Level position in the Network Engineering and Architecture Group responsible for the day-to-day design, maintenance and operation of LSU's wireless and backbone computer network. This includes the management of all routers, switches, firewalls, wireless unified system, storage area networking devices, vpn concentrators, and network management software. This position is also responsible for the mentoring and possible supervision of student workers.

Support: Responsible for operational support and troubleshooting production issues to optimize wireless networking throughout the campus environment; Assists in the development of wireless network infrastructures and recommendation on systems enhancements for optimization; Designs and validates RF link performance, quality and reliability; Monitors and analyzes statistical data to improve system performance; Performs site surveys of Customer Networks.

Operations: Assists in the evaluation of vendor hardware and software for wireless and other network products; recommends purchases consistent with short and long term objectives.

Participates in the design and implementation of selected software and hardware solutions; This will include both new systems, as well as upgrades to existing solutions. Designs networks, engages with vendors to collaborate on network engineering.

(...Operations): Assists in the development and maintenance of critical network systems including LAN, WAN, wireless LAN, network management systems, and data center operations Uses knowledge of LAN/WAN systems to help design and install internal and external networks. Tests and evaluates network systems to eliminate problems and make improvements.

Training and mentoring of junior analysts, student workers and colleagues.

Minimum Qualifications Network Wireless Engineer 1:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, ISDS OR Bachelor's Degree in any discipline plus 1 yr. experience in Ethernet Networking

Preferred Qualifications Network Wireless Engineer 1:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, ISDS plus 1 year experience Ethernet networking, TCP/IP, 802.11 wireless, CCNA Wireless Certification. Coding experience in Python, PERL or a similar scripting language.

Minimum Qualifications Network Wireless Engineer 2:

Bachelor's Degree in any discipline plus 2 years experience in 802.11 Wireless Networking.

Preferred Qualifications Network Wireless Engineer 2:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, ISDS plus 2 years experience Ethernet networking, TCP/IP, 802.11 wireless, CCNA Wireless Certification. Coding experience in Python, PERL or a similar scripting language.

Minimum Qualifications Network Wireless Engineer 3:

Demonstrates a basic ability to independently evaluate wireless technology, design and architect wireless networking solutions.
