The Wind Turbine Blade Specialist is a subject matter expert for ACCIONA projects throughout the North America region. This position provides technical expertise and project management skills related to the operation and maintenance of wind turbine blades. This requires attention to safety regulations for the industry and is important for overall safety on the job.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-site inspections: end of warranty, technical follow-up of repairs, receipt of new blades, quality and safety audits, root cause analysis of claims, detailed inspection of blades, etc.

  • Lead and train personnel to safely and efficiently accomplish their duties including maintaining required training certifications and proficiencies.

  • Monitor, track, report, and work with sites to correct blade deficiencies to minimize downtime and 3rd party stanby cost.

  • Create and maintain the technical specifications for blade inspections and repair

  • Lead the development of blade processes and procedures to safely and effectively operate Acciona renewable generating facilities for "Best in Class Performance"

  • Create, monitor and audit blade repair instructions or technical notes, repair reports, root cause analysis reports, , work planning, preparation of templates for new campaigns, proposals for the optimization of repair techniques and processes, analysis of indicators, definition of risk containment strategies, etc.

  • Participation in technical approval processes for new blade inspection and repair companies.

  • Technical assistance and close collaboration with Site Managers.

  • Assist with the coordination of repair and inspection activities with other contractors and service providers.

  • Have a safety first mindset and ability to identify safe work practices and ensure they are being implemented.

  • Participation in Innovation projects and their business feasability.

  • Seek continuous improvement in maintenance by analyzing materials and processes that improve and optimize blade inspections and repairs.

  • Manage blade projects ensuring that O&M, Procurement, Safety, Construction are utilized and pulled in on an as needed basis.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Requires a college degree in engineering/engineering technology and/or advanced technical degree and/or equivalent work experience in related disciplines

  • Requires at least 5 years of experience with Wind Turbine blade repair and replacement

  • Requires advanced knowledge of blade manufacturing, replacement, and repair techniques

  • Ability to travel to domestic and international locations for work and/or training for extended periods of time

  • Travel: 30% - 50% depending on home base location

  • Must live within 60 miles of an Acciona Facility

  • Bayview, TX

  • Rio Hondo, TX

  • Seymour, TX

  • Dallas, TX

  • Previous experience working with hand tools and power tools

  • Basic familiarity with rigging

  • Ability to analyze blade inspection reports and perform QA inspections on blade repairs

  • Ability to report on a large number of blades and convey trending in a simplistic manner.

  • Able to work independently in a fast-paced team environment

  • Ability to move and manipulate up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to climb vertical ladders and work at heights of 120M

  • Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, and in adverse and extreme weather conditions, in dust, pollen, weeds, grasses, and in confined spaces

  • Maintain required training certifications

  • Have a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Passport
