Maneuvers and holds grader barge in position.
Makes minor adjustments and repairs to equipment.
Uses common mechanic tools in making adjustments and operating repairs.
Assists mechanic in making major repairs.
Follows safety protocols to control equipment.
Listens, Observes, Reads signals for equipment operation and control.
Operates equipment under adverse conditions such as weather conditions; abnormal noises; and danger of broken cables.
During nonconstruction season may be assigned to other phases of productive work for (1) needs of organization; (2) individual ability; (3) requirements for utilization of personnel; and (4) need for new and additional experience as required.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed Background Investigation.
Pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 pounds in the regular performance of duties.
Permanent seasonal position-annually recurring periods of work that typically last six months each year, but may vary depending upon the needs of management. Non-duty, non-pay status in the off-season and recalled to duty the following work season.
Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 75% of the time.

To operate the winches, operators push, pull, and depress the various hand and foot
controls, requiring continuous reaching, bending, and moving of hands, arms, feet, and
legs. At the same time, they must bend and twist their bodies to observe the cables and
barges and their clearance over and around other objects. They work in a seated or
standing position and must keep their balance during starting and stopping motions of the
Work outdoors under a winch canopy. Ventilation is adequate, but heat or cold may be uncomfortable while working outdoors. Exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises while working with wire rope and cable. Exposed to possible unpleasant noise, dust, dirt, or fumes from the work area. Subject to changing weather conditions; dangers attending moving machinery; abnormal noises; and danger of broken cables.
