We are seeking a WIC Senior Nutritionist to be part of a leadership team that will be focused on helping families to meet their nutrition goals. Responsibilities include supervision of nutrition staff and developing supportive staff training plans, as well as supporting family needs and issues related to all WIC services. Also responsible for monitoring nutritional operations and ensuring that the program maintains the State and Federal guidelines.

Responsibilities include:

Plan, supervise and evaluate the nutrition component of the program to ensure compliance with federal regulations and state policies, including all procedures for:

  • Determination of nutritional risk.

  • Nutrition and breastfeeding counseling and education.

  • Nutrition appointment schedule (certification and follow-up).

  • Follow-up nutrition education.

  • Food package prescriptions.

  • Health and social service referrals.

  • Nutrition care plans.

  • Documentation of nutrition services.

Develop local program nutrition procedures based on state WIC policies, procedures and guidelines.

Recruit, hire (with program director), train (with The Learning Center), and provide ongoing supervision for program nutritionists and nutrition assistants.

Mentor staff to ensure the provision of effective nutrition services and education to families.

Supervise nutrition assistant staff in the completion of required activities to obtain CPA I and II status, within established timeframes.

Ensure that nutrition staff have up-to-date knowledge and skills by:

  • Ensuring that nutrition staff obtains 10 CEU credits annually.

  • Conducting annual nutrition staff reviews (with the program director).

Plan staffing, participant service hours, participant flow, and staff roles and responsibilities to provide services according to federal regulations and state policies, in coordination with the program director and assistant director, and assists in planning certification appointment/schedule.

Establish schedules for follow-up nutrition education (individual and group).

Plan, develop, review, monitor, and evaluate delivery of nutrition education, implementing new strategies to enhance services.

Oversee the planning, provision and evaluation of nutrition education associated with Farmers' Market.

Attend WIC Nutritionist Work Group and Business meetings, contribute and maintain ongoing membership in a standing CTI committee.

Act as nutrition liaison between state agency and local program, and between local program and health care community. Regularly visit and communicate with healthcare providers.

Work with and supervise the breastfeeding coordinator to develop, implement and evaluate breastfeeding promotion and support activities, including the Mother to Mother Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program.

Work with the program director, assistant director and community coordinator to develop outreach and referral networks, and provide training, as needed, to community agencies and health care providers.

Perform other related duties as assigned, including but not limited to:

  • Certifying high-risk women, infants and children.

  • Providing nutrition education and referrals.

Qualifications include:

Master's degree in public health nutrition, nutrition, foods and nutrition, or nutrition education, and one year of post graduate community nutrition experience.

Registered Dietitian with one year of post graduate community nutrition experience.

Bachelor's degree in public health nutrition, nutrition, or nutrition education, and two years of post graduate community nutrition experience.

Experience in program planning and administration.

At least one year of experience in counseling required.

Demonstrated leadership and decision-making capabilities.

Excellent Customer Service, organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

Sensitivity to the needs of the participant population.

Proficient computer skills required in basic computer software and data collection systems.

Good attention to detail.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Availability to work at multiple WIC sites and during evening and weekend hours, as needed

Bi-lingual skills (English/Spanish and English/Khmer) preferred.

Licensure with the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Dietitians and Nutritionists preferred. Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, desired.
