WIC Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (On-Site)

Position Summary:

The Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) is responsible for providing nutrition education to participants/patients of various San Ysidro Health programs in both clinical and community settings. The RDN will be responsible for completing nutrition assessments, nutrition prescriptions and nutrition care plans in accordance with nutrition practice guidelines.

Essential Functions of the Job:

Clinical: 60%

• Perform nutrition assessments to determine nutritional risks.

• Conduct Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) encounters including follow up MNT appointments.

• Provide nutrition prescriptions based on nutrition practice guidelines.

• Create and document nutrition care plans.

• Monitor and evaluate the MNT provided.

• Work collaboratively with the healthcare team to coordinate care.

• Work as a RDN consultant with the Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP).

• Develop culturally and linguistically appropriate nutrition and health education curriculums.

• Provide nutrition education trainings as needed.

Community: 40%

• Refer high risk participants to a provider for MNT and provide counseling and support of any MNT given when appropriate.

• Perform nutrition assessments, determine nutritional risks, create nutrition care plans and prescribe WIC food packages.

• Provide group and one on one nutrition and breastfeeding education.

• Issue breast pumps according to the agency's policies and procedures.

• Give referrals as needed to other programs.

• Participate in program linkages, referral and outreach activities.

• Provide nutrition education trainings and mentorship as needed

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safely, environmental and infection control standards.

• Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.

• Attends meetings as required and participates in committees as directed.

Job Requirements

Experience Required:

• Minimum of 3 years' experience working as a Clinical Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

• Minimum 2 years of providing diabetes education

• Minimum 1 year experience in prenatal nutrition

Education Required:

• Bachelor of Science in Nutrition or related field

• Completion of Didactic Internship

Certifications/Licenses Required:

• Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credentialed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

• Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) credential preferred.

Verbal and Written Skills Required to Perform the Job:

• Bilingual (Spanish/English).

• Strong oral and written communication.

Technical Knowledge and Skills Required to Perform the Job:

• Strong desire to serve and work with a culturally diverse, low-income population.

• Knowledge of community health center environment desirable.

• Computer proficiency.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment

Equipment Used:

• General office equipment including, but not limited to, computers, video conferencing software, telephones, copy and fax machines

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting, standing and walking.

• Noisy clinic environment with young children and infants.

• May require the ability to move up to 20 lbs. with proper equipment.

• Schedule will require working some Saturdays (minimum once per month) and evenings.

• May need to travel and work at other SYHealth sites.

Universal Requirements:

Pre-employment requirements include I-9, physical, positive background and reference check results, complete application, new hire orientation, pre-employment PPDs. Compliance with all mandated vaccinations and all boosters is a term and condition of employment.
